Berrimah Prison
Berrimah Prison, was an Australian maximum security prison formerly located in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. The centre was managed by Northern Territory Correctional Services, an agency of the Department of Justice of the Government of the Northern Territory. The centre detained sentenced and charged felons under Northern Territory and/or Commonwealth law. Following significant overcrowding, decommission plans were put into place and the adult facility was closed on Friday 28 November 2014. The Don Dale Youth Detention Centre was moved to the Berrimah prison site following an incident at that prison. Facilities The centre opened on 1 September 1979 and replaced the Fannie Bay Gaol. Initially built to hold 110 prisoners, Berrimah Prison in 2012 housed approximately 750 inmates. Peter Falconio
Peter Falconio was a British tourist who disappeared in a remote part of the Stuart Highway near Barrow Creek in the Northern Territory of Australia on the evening of 14 July 2001, while travelling with his girlfriend Joanne Lees. In the aftermath of the backpacker murders, the case quickly attracted considerable public and legal attention both domestically and worldwide. Falconio was 28 years old at the time of the disappearance. His body has never been found and he is now presumed dead. Michael Chamberlain
Michael Leigh Chamberlain (27 February 1944 – 9 January 2017) was a New Zealand-Australian writer, teacher and pastor falsely implicated in the August 1980 death of his missing daughter Azaria, which was later demonstrated to be the result of a dingo attack while the family was camping near Uluru (then usually called Ayers Rock) in the Northern Territory, Australia. Azaria Chamberlain Disappearance
Azaria Chantel Loren Chamberlain (11 June 1980, Mount Isa – 17 August 1980, Uluru) was a nine-week-old Australian baby girl who was killed by a dingo on the night of 17 August 1980 during a family camping trip to Uluru in the Northern Territory. Her body was never found. Her parents, Lindy and Michael Chamberlain, reported that she had been taken from their tent by a dingo. However, Lindy was tried for murder and spent more than three years in prison. Michael received a suspended sentence. Lindy was released only after Azaria's jacket was found near a dingo lair and new inquests were opened. Alice Lynne "Lindy" Chamberlain-Creighton (''née'' Murchison, born 4 March 1948) is a New Zealand–born Australian woman who was falsely convicted in one of Australia's most publicised and notorious murder trials and miscarriages of justice. Holtze, Northern Territory
Holtze is a locality in Darwin, Northern Territory, Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. It is 22 km southeast of the Darwin Central business district, CBD. Doug Owston Correctional Centre
The Doug Owston Correctional Centre, is an Australian minimum to maximum security prison for males and females. The centre is located in Holtze, Northern Territory, Australia, south–east of Darwin and has a capacity of 800 prisoners, replacing the Berrimah Prison. Facilities The new correctional facilities deliver education and training programs, rehabilitation and treatment services to prisoners. In addition to the 800 bed correctional centre, the complex has further provision for 200 beds, a 30-bed mental health centre, a 48–bed centre for community based offenders, and a horticulture area for food production.
