Bernard Qualtrough
Bernard Qualtrough is a fictional British spy appearing in series 7 of the BBC television drama '' Spooks'' (known as ''MI-5'' in the United States). The character was played by Richard Johnson. In series 7, Bernard is in his retirement and is approached by his protégé Harry Pearce about operation ''Sugar Horse''. This operation recruited sleeper agents in the (then) Soviet Union so they would rise to positions of influence before being activated. Harry is concerned that the operation, which he describes as the most important that MI5 has undertaken, has been compromised. Bernard suggests Connie James as a likely suspect after dismissing the possibility that Richard Dolby could have betrayed the operation. Richard Keith Johnson (30 July 1927 – 5 June 2015) was an English stage and screen actor, writer and producer. A sleeper agent, also called sleeper cell, is a spy who is placed in a target country or organization not to undertake an immediate mission but to act as a potential asset if activated. Even if unactivated, the "sleeper agent" is still an asset and can still play an active role in sedition, espionage or possibly treason by virtue of agreeing to act if activated. Lucas North, formerly known as John Bateman, is a fictional character from the BBC espionage television series '' Spooks'' (known in the United States as "MI5"), which follows the exploits of Section D, a counter-terrorism division of MI5. North is portrayed by British actor Richard Armitage.
