Bendik Giske
Bendik Giske is a Norwegian saxophonist and performance artist, living in Berlin. He has released three albums, ''Surrender'' (2019), ''Cracks'' (2021), and ''Bendik Gaske'' (2023) all on Smalltown Supersound. Life and work Giske was born in Oslo. He spent time as a child in Bali. He attended a music conservatoire in Copenhagen. Dave Segal at ''Pitchfork'' wrote that "Giske's approach has more in common with the otherworldly fever-dreamscapes of the late trumpeter Jon Hassell and his young sax acolyte Sam Gendel than with any jazz traditionalists." Smalltown Supersound
Smalltown Supersound is an independent record label, founded in Flekkefjord in 1993 and now based in Oslo, Norway. It is dedicated to new forms of jazz, rock and electronic music. Their catalog features albums by Kelly Lee Owens, Deathprod, Neneh Cherry, Annie, Jaga Jazzist, 120 Days, Mental Overdrive, Bjørn Torske, Mats Gustafsson and Sonic Youth, amongst others. History Smalltown Supersound was founded in 1993 by Joakim Haugland in the small town of Flekkefjord in southern Norway. At the time, the teenage Haugland was an active participant in the town's local DIY scene, centred on the festival Fjellparkfestivalen and the local rock club. Sam Gendel
Sam Gendel is an American saxophonist and music producer. Career With bassist Sam Wilkes, Gendel released the live jazz album ''Music for Saxofone & Bass Guitar'' in 2018. Gendel co-wrote the tracks "Flower Moon" and "Spring Snow" on Vampire Weekend's 2019 album, '' Father of the Bride''. He also recorded a 20 minute, 21 second-long version of Vampire Weekend's "2021" for the EP ''40:42''. In March 2020, Gendel released his first album with Nonesuch Records, ''Satin Doll'', which was described as "a futuristic homage to historical jazz." José Esteban Muñoz (August 9, 1967 – December 3, 2013) was a Cuban American academic in the fields of performance studies, visual culture, queer theory, cultural studies, and critical theory. J’Kerian Morgan (born March 22, 1989), known professionally as Lotic, is an American electronic musician based in Berlin. Lotic rose to prominence through her involvement with the Janus Collective in the early 2010s as well as with a string of EPs released during this time. Deathprod is the musical pseudonym used by Norwegian artist Helge Sten for his ambient music project. He is married to Norwegian singer Susanna Wallumrød. Biography Sten began creating music under this name starting in 1991, culminating with a box set of most of his recorded work being released in 2004.
