Ben Cummins
Ben Cummins is an Australian rugby league referee for the National Rugby League. He has refereed since 2006. Background Cummins was born in Cairns, Queensland. He moved to Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, when he was four years of age. He now lives in Sydney with his wife (Jane), three daughters (Isani, Bethany and Caitlin) and son (Patrick). He played junior rugby league in Canberra and studied primary school teaching at the Australian Catholic University. Refereeing career He made his National Rugby League debut in 2006 in a Cowboys-Panthers match in North Queensland. In 2011 he controlled the City vs Country Origin match. National Rugby League
The National Rugby League (NRL) is an Australasian rugby league club competition which contains clubs from New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory and New Zealand. The NRL formed in 1998 as a joint partnership between the Australian Rugby League (ARL) and media giant News Corporation-controlled Super League, in the aftermath of the 1990s Super League war, in which both ran parallel to each other in 1997. The partnership was dissolved in 2012, with control of the NRL going to the re-constituted ARL, which was re-structured with an independent board of directors and renamed the Australian Rugby League Commission. 2017 State Of Origin Series
The 2017 State of Origin series was the 36th annual best-of-three series between the Queensland and New South Wales rugby league teams. Before this series Queensland had won 20 times, NSW 13 times, with two series drawn. Queensland were the current title holders coming into the series, having won 2-1 in 2016. Bill Harrigan
Bill Harrigan (born 24 May 1960 in Sydney, New South Wales) is an Australian former rugby league football referee, and former head of refereeing for the National Rugby League. Unusually for a sports official, in his long career he was accorded the same profile as some of the top players he refereed. A policeman off-field before he resigned to concentrate on rugby league, he is widely recognised as one of Australia's greatest sports umpires. He retired with the record for most State of Origin matches officiated. Early life William James "Bill" Harrigan was born in 1960 in the Western Suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales. He resided in the south-west and greater western suburbs of Sydney for all of his childhood.
