2017 State Of Origin Series
The 2017 State of Origin series was the 36th State of Origin series, annual best-of-three series between the Queensland rugby league team, Queensland and New South Wales rugby league team, New South Wales rugby league teams. Before this series Queensland had won 20 times, NSW 13 times, with two series drawn. Queensland were the current title holders coming into the series, having won 2-1 in 2016 State of Origin series, 2016. With Games One and Two completed, the series was tied with 1 win to each team. Game Three (the Decider) was played in Brisbane at Lang Park, Suncorp Stadium; leading to a 22-6 win to Queensland. Former Queensland rugby league legend Kevin Walters coached Queensland rugby league team, Queensland for the 2nd year after his maiden series win in 2016 State of Origin series, 2016. Queensland Rugby League Team
The Queensland rugby league team represents the Australian state of Queensland in rugby league football. Nicknamed the "Maroons" after the colour of their jersey, they play three times a year against arch-rivals New South Wales rugby league team, New South Wales in the State of Origin series. The team is currently coached by Billy Slater and is captained by Cameron Munster, and is administered by the Queensland Rugby League. They play all of their home matches at Brisbane's Lang Park (known due to naming rights as Suncorp Stadium). Since 1908, a rugby league team representing Queensland has been assembled from players based in the state to compete annually against New South Wales. The team used to play matches against other high-profile foreign and domestic touring teams, but has not played anyone other than New South Wales in several decades. Johnathan Dean Thurston (born 25 April 1983) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the National Rugby League (NRL). Gerard Sutton (born 23 October 1978) is an Australian rugby league referee from Coonabarabran, New South Wales, Australia. He officiates in the National Rugby League. Rugby league career Sutton made his National Rugby League debut in 2009. Matt Cecchin
Matt Cecchin (born 1973) is an Australian former rugby league referee who officiated in the NRL between 2001 and 2021. Cecchin officiated international matches at the 2011 Four Nations and 2017 World Cup, and domestic representative matches in all three games of the 2017 State of Origin series. Referee career Cecchin began his career by overseeing Metro Cup matches. He made his first grade debut when he took over from an injured Steve Clark at halftime of a New Zealand Warriors and Northern Eagles match on 1 June 2001.
