Belegarth
Belegarth Medieval Combat Society is a full contact battle game where foam weapons are used in order to prevent serious physical injury to participants. It differs from other battle games and LARPs in that it is entirely combat-oriented. Belegarth allows hard hitting, shield bashes, and grappling with little emphasis on role playing and has no magic or character classes. It is a corporation composed of a number of "realms" that can file for not-for-profit status, which compete at regional and national events every year. Typically, each realm also holds individual fighting practices several times a week. Realms vary in size from just a handful of people to over a hundred fighters. The BMCS is a for profit entity but many of the realms under it have claimed Not-for-Profit status independently. Dagorhir Battle Games is a live action role-playing game (battle game) originating in the United States with full-contact melee fighting and ranged combat as its primary focus. Fighters typically use foam weapons such as swords, Flail (weapon), flails, spears, bows and arrows, javelins, axes, and other medieval weapons. Participants wear period costume and are expected to stay in-character during events, although the amount of seriousness the role-playing aspect receives varies greatly by unit and chapter. Amtgard
Amtgard is a battle gaming and live-action fantasy roleplaying and boffer combat game with chapters primarily based in the United States and Canada as well as Germany, Croatia, and South Korea. History Amtgard was created by Jim Haren Jr, also known as Peter LaGrue, in El Paso, Texas in 1983. Taking pieces from the rulebooks of both Emarthnguarth and Dagorhir (both of which he had played previously), he advertised in the newspaper for an event known as "Attila the Hun's Birthday Brawl." Though only a few people showed that first day, it was a hit, and soon the game spread throughout the state and then the country. The largest concentrations of Amtgard chapters are in Texas and the Central United States, but groups are found throughout the United States as well as in Canada, Croatia, Japan, Finland, Germany, Korea, and Russia. Darkon Wargaming Club
The Darkon Wargaming Club is a non-profit battle gaming and live-action role-playing (LARP) club in the United States based in the Baltimore/Washington/Virginia area. Founded in 1985 and built upon the rules of the now-defunct ''Emarthnguarth Outdoor Wargaming System'',''The Darkon Wargaming Club Official Rulebook'', page 1. Darkon grew from a handful of LARP enthusiasts to almost 2,000 members in 2005, with a small number of chapters dotting the country. Darkon is notable for its age and media coverage. The club was featured on two Fox News broadcasts and in a CNN story by Oliver Janney. On June 3, 2009, a segment featuring several members of the club was featured on National Public Radio.
