Andrey Beketov
Andrey Nikolayevich Beketov (, 8 December 1825 — 1 July 1902) was a Russian botanist, an Honourable member of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Sciences. Beketov, the Meritorious Professor of Saint Petersburg University (which he was the head of in 1876-1883) was also a famous pedagogue and lecturer; among his best-known students were Andrey Krasnov, Vladimir Vernadsky, Kliment Timiryazev and Ivan Shmalhausen. Beketov initiated the inception of the High Women's Courses which he was the head of until 1889 when they were reorganized, to be known later as the Bestuzhev Courses. He edited the Works of Free Economical Society (for which he was for several years the secretary and, since 1891 its vice-president) and, in 1861—1863, the Russian Geographical Society Herald (Вестник Русского географического oбщества). Mikhail Vasilyevich Beketov (; 10 January 1958 – 8 April 2013) was a Russian journalist who came to widespread attention when he was attacked in an assault thought to be connected with his coverage of the planned destruction of the Khimki Forest to make way for the Moscow–Saint Petersburg motorway. Career Beketov graduated from Moscow State University and worked on the Baikal-Amur motorway. He later moved to Khimki and started publishing a newspaper, ''Khimkinskaya Pravda'' (''Химкинская правда'', ''Khimki Truth''). In the paper, he frequently criticised the local administration for corruption. Motorway opposition Beketov covered the construction of the motorway and its potential damage to the environment, particularly around the area of the Khimki Forest, near Moscow. Nikolay Beketov
Nikolay Nikolayevich Beketov (; , Alferovka (now Beketovka), Penza Governorate, Russian Empire – , St. Petersburg, Russian Empire) was a Russian Imperial physical chemist and metallurgist. He was the father of a well-known Russian architect Alexei Beketov. Life and work In 1849 Beketov graduated from Kazan University and worked with Nikolay Zinin. In 1855 he became a junior scientific assistant in the Department of Chemistry at Kharkov University. In 1859-1887 Beketov was a professor at the same university. In 1865 he defended his PhD thesis on "Research into the phenomenon of displacement of one element by another" (""). In 1886 Beketov moved to Saint Petersburg, where he worked at the academic chemical laboratory and taught at the University for Women.In 1890 Beketov delivered lectures on the "Basics of Thermochemistry" at Moscow State University. Beketov is a small lunar impact crater that lies in the northern reaches of the Mare Tranquillitatis. It is named after Russian chemist Nikolay Beketov. To the south is the ghost crater Jansen R. Pyotr Beketov (, c. 1600 – c. 1661) was a Cossack explorer of Siberia and founder of various fortified settlements in the region, which later developed into modern cities such as Yakutsk, Chita, and Nerchinsk. Beketov started his military service as a guardsman ( strelets) in 1624 and was sent to Siberia in 1627. He was appointed Enisei voevoda and proceeded on his first voyage in order to collect taxes from Zabaykalye Buryats. He carried out his mission successfully and he was the first Russian to enter Buryatia and founded the first Russian settlement, Rybinsky Ostrog. Beketov was sent to the Lena River in 1631 and in the following year he and his Cossacks founded Yakutsk, which became a base for further expeditions eastward. He sent his cossacks to explore the Aldan River and further down the Lena, to found new fortresses, and to collect taxes from the locals. Vladimir Andreevich Beketov (; born 3 March 1949) is a Russian politician who served as a senator from Krasnodar Krai from 2017 to 2022. He was re-elected as a deputy in the Legislative Assembly of Krasnodar Krai in September 2022. Biography Vladimir Beketov was born on 17 August 1959 in Uspensky District, Krasnodar Krai.
