Batuhan Altıntaş (born 28 April 1996) is a Turkish sprinter specialising in the 400 metres. Individually, he won the bronze medal at the 2015 European Junior Championships. In addition, he won two relay medals at the Islamic Solidarity Games. The 2017 European Athletics Indoor Championships were held between 3 and 5 March 2017 at the Kombank Arena in Belgrade, Serbia. This was the second time this event was held in the city after the 1969 European Indoor Games, 1969 edition then known as the European Indoor Games, and the first time in more than 30 years that the competition was held in Eastern Europe. The 2016 European Athletics Championships was held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, between 6 and 10 July 2016. It was the first time the Netherlands hosted the event. Due to 2016 being an Olympic year, there was no racewalking and the marathon competition was replaced by half marathon. The Russian team did not participate due to the suspension of the All-Russia Athletic Federation by the International Association of Athletics Federations. However, Yuliya Stepanova was individually cleared by the IAAF to compete as an independent athlete; she participated in the European championships under the flag of the European Athletic Association. The men's 400 metres at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships took place on March 18 and 19, 2016. All eyes were on Bralon Taplin, who had run the three fastest times of the year, including a win in the semifinals. He led from the break, closely followed by defending champion Pavel Maslák. For 350 metres, Taplin maintained his lead, but Maslák made his move with just 50 metres to go. In a few strides, Taplin was overtaken. Further back, Abdalelah Haroun executed a similar move, overtaking Deon Lendore. Taplin, exhausted, faded quickly.
