Batticaloa Campus
The Batticaloa Campus initially known as Malik Abdulla University College named after king Abdullah of Saudi Arabia is a proposed private university under construction in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. The establishment of the university came under media attention following the Easter Sunday bombings carried out by Islamist terrorist group National Thowheeth Jama'ath. The institute has attracted a number of controversies including financial irregularities including in violation of financial regulations, forcible acquisition of land, teaching of Sharia law as well as well a "negative report" by the Intelligence agencies before construction began. 2019 Anti-Muslim Riots In Sri Lanka
The Sri Lankan anti-Muslim riots were a series of religiously motivated riots targeting Muslims in Sri Lanka. The riots originated as isolated incidents in the aftermath of the Easter bombings in the nation, beginning in Chilaw and subsequently spreading to much of the Northwestern Province. Muslim citizens, mosques and other properties were attacked by mobs of Sinhala Buddhist nationalists, and at least one incident in which attacks were carried out by a Christian-majority mob. Only one death was reported, Saleem Ameer who was killed by a mob wielding swords. Other sources claimed 9 deaths, but the claims are unconfirmed. 2019 Sri Lanka Easter Bombings
On 21 April 2019, Easter Sunday, three churches in Sri Lanka and three luxury hotels in the commercial capital, Colombo, were targeted in a series of coordinated ISIS-related terrorist suicide bombings. Later that day, there were smaller explosions at a housing complex in Dematagoda and a guest house in Dehiwala. A total of 269 people were killed, including at least 45 foreign nationals, three police officers, and eight bombers, and at least 500 were injured. The church bombings were carried out during Easter services in Negombo, Batticaloa and Colombo; the hotels that were bombed were the Shangri-La, Cinnamon Grand, Kingsbury and Tropical Inn.
