Batmania
''Batmania'' is a term coined by Billy Joe (Biljo) White in the early 1960s and the title of his influential fanzine dedicated to the DC Comics, DC comic book character Batman. The name is "almost certainly" a nod to the then-prominent term "Beatlemania" used to describe the impact of the Beatles in popular culture. When White first published ''Batmania'', interest in the Batman character was at a low point; however, due to changes credited largely to DC editor Julius Schwartz, Julie Schwartz, comic sales improved and the character built a wave of popularity that led to the Batman (TV series), 1966 ''Batman'' television series. White and his fanzine were credited with helping to focus the energy of the dedicated fans during this time. James Van Hise
James Van Hise (born 1949) is an American popular culture historian and comic book author. He had a long connection with the popular fanzine ''Rocket's Blast Comicollector'' (''RBCC''), and was its editor/publisher from 1974 to 1983. He also had a lengthy association with Hal Schuster, owner of New Media Publishing and Pioneer Books. Van Hise is the author of more than ten books, many of them published by Pioneer Books. Career Van Hise's first published works were in the ranks of fandom. He (along with Larry Bigman) wrote the ''Al Williamson Collector'' column for ''RBCC'' in the early 1970s. In 1974, Van Hise became editor and publisher of ''RBCC''. He introduced new features and columns to the zine, freshening its aesthetic for new audiences. ''Batman'' is a 1989 superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name, created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. Directed by Tim Burton, it is the first installment of Warner Bros.' initial ''Batman'' film series. The film was produced by Jon Peters and Peter Guber and stars Jack Nicholson, Michael Keaton, Kim Basinger, Robert Wuhl, Pat Hingle, Billy Dee Williams, Michael Gough, and Jack Palance. Batwoman is a name of several superheroes appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, depicted as female counterparts and allies of Batman similarly to Batgirl.
