Basin Fire
The Basin Fire was a wildfire that burned through Fresno County in Central California between June 26 and July 20, 2024. It prompted numerous evacuations, and was the fourth fire to burn more than 14,000 acres as part of the 2024 California wildfire season. Progression The fire started on June 26, less than a mile north of the Green Cabin Flat Campgrounds., and by June 28 the fire had already reached 7,462 acres. One airplane and 9 helicopters were assigned to the fire, along with 430 personnel. Evacuation warnings were also sent out for areas north of Elwood. On June 27, the fire had stayed at the same acreage, and fire crews prioritized the stoppage of the fire near the southern portions of the Kings River. 2024 California Wildfires
By the end of 2024, a total of 8,024 wildfires burned a cumulative throughout the U.S. state of California. The total number of wildfires was slightly higher than the five-year average, while the total number of acres burned was lower. Wildfires destroyed a total of 1,716 structures and killed one person in the state in 2024. This season had the most burned acres since the 2021 California wildfires, 2021 wildfire season. Kings River (California)
The Kings River is a river draining the Sierra Nevada mountain range in central California in the United States. Its headwaters originate along the Sierra Crest in and around Kings Canyon National Park and form the eponymous Kings Canyon, one of the deepest river gorges in North America. The river is impounded in Pine Flat Lake before flowing into the San Joaquin Valley (the southern half of the Central Valley) southeast of Fresno. Rough Fire
The Rough Fire was a wildfire of the 2015 California season. It burned of land, a season record, and was extinguished by 3,742 firefighters. Progression The fire, caused by a lightning strike on July 31, approximately North of Hume Lake, burned mainly in the Sierra National Forest and Sequoia National Forest. On September 2, over 2,500 people were safely evacuated from Hume Lake Christian Camps and surrounding area. All camp events were cancelled and only security personnel remained. Dinkey Creek (California)
Dinkey Creek is a large stream in the southern Sierra Nevada, in Fresno County, California. The creek is long, flowing undammed in a southerly direction through the Sierra National Forest. It is a tributary of the North Fork Kings River, in turn part of the Kings River system which drains into the de-watered Tulare Lake bed. Dinkey Creek originates in the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness, along the Three Sisters peaks, at an elevation of above sea level. The Park Fire was an extremely large wildfire in Northern California's Butte County, California, Butte and Tehama County, California, Tehama counties. It ignited on July 24, 2024 in an alleged act of arson in the city of Chico, California, Chico's Bidwell Park in Butte County.
