Baseline (magazine)
''Baseline'' magazine () is a magazine devoted to typography, book arts and graphic design (not to be confused with the information technology magazine of the same name that is published by QuinStreet). History Since ''Baseline 19'', which appeared in 1995, ''Baseline'' has been published by Bradbourne Publishing, co-edited by Mike Daines and Hans Dieter Reichert and art-directed by HDR Visual Communication. It is characterized by its large format, sumptuous art and double cover. It has won several major international design awards in the USA, Europe and Japan. The magazine is featured in several academic publications (i.e. Philip Megg's ''History of Graphic design'' and ''Idea'' magazine). Before issue 19, publishers, editors, magazine dimensions and quality varied as the magazine evolved from a small format booklet that first appeared in 1979. Typography is the art and technique of arranging type to make written language legible, readable and appealing when displayed. Graphic design is a profession, academic discipline and applied art whose activity consists in projecting visual communications intended to transmit specific messages to social groups, with specific objectives. QuinStreet, Inc. is a publicly traded marketing company based in Foster City, California. QuinStreet offers performance-based marketing and search engine marketing services. QuinStreet was founded in 1999, and has launched or acquired dozens of websites and other media properties. Erik Spiekermann
Erik Spiekermann (born 30 May 1947 in Stadthagen, Lower Saxony) is a German typographer, designer and writer. He is an honorary professor at the University of the Arts Bremen and ArtCenter College of Design. Biography Spiekermann studied art history at Berlin's Free University, funding himself by running a letterpress printing press in the basement of his house. Between 1972 and 1979, he worked as a freelance graphic designer in London before returning to Berlin and founding MetaDesign with two partners. In 1989, he and his then-wife Joan Spiekermann started FontShop, the first mail-order distributor for digital fonts. FontShop International followed and now publishes the ''FontFont'' range of typefaces. Letraset
Letraset was a company known mainly for manufacturing sheets of typefaces and other artwork elements using the dry transfer method. Letraset has been acquired by the Colart group and become part of its subsidiary Winsor & Newton. Corporate history Letraset was founded in London in 1959, with the launch of the Letraset Type Lettering System. In 1961, Letraset came out with their dry transfer lettering system, which pioneered the technique.
