Barry Hyde (musician)
The Futureheads are an English post-punk band from Sunderland, formed in 2000. The band consists of Ross Millard (vocals and guitar), David "Jaff" Craig (vocals and bass guitar) and brothers Barry Hyde (vocals and guitar) and Dave Hyde (drums). Their name comes from the title of the Flaming Lips album ''Hit to Death in the Future Head''. The band's influences include new wave and post-punk bands such as Gang of Four, Devo, XTC, Wire and Fugazi. Career Early days The band met at City of Sunderland College as a quartet consisting of Barry Hyde (vocals and guitar), David "Jaff" Craig (vocals and bass guitar), Peter Brewis (drums), and Ross Millard (vocals and guitar). Millard and Craig had been in another local band together previously. They used the Sunderland City Detached Youth Project building (where Brewis and Hyde worked) as a free practice space, fitting since the project was intended to get young people off the streets by using music. Fugazi (; ) is an American post-hardcore band formed in Washington, D.C., in 1986. The band consists of guitarists and vocalists Ian MacKaye and Guy Picciotto, bassist Joe Lally, and drummer Brendan Canty. They were noted for their style-transcending music, DIY ethical stance, manner of business practice, and contempt for the music industry. Fugazi performed numerous worldwide tours and produced six studio albums, a film, and a comprehensive live series, gaining the band critical acclaim and success around the world. 679 Artists (formally known as Sixsevenine and 679 Recordings) was a Warner Music Group-owned record label based in London, England. It was started by Nick Worthington who after leaving XL Recordings in 2001, started the company with Warner Music Group, and holds the position of MD and A&R Director. It is named "679" as this was the address of the Pure Groove record shop on Holloway Road. The label's first release was The Streets' debut, '' Original Pirate Material'' (which was named ''The Observer''s best album of the 2000s). ''The Futureheads'' is the debut studio album by British rock band the Futureheads. It was released on 12 July 2004 and spawned the singles "First Day", "Decent Days and Nights", "Meantime", and "Hounds of Love" (a Kate Bush cover). The album received critical praise and was re-released as a special edition in 2005 featuring a DVD and coming with a slightly re-designed cover in pink rather than the standard LP's grey. Release The album's artwork was inspired by the painting ''Lonely Man'' by Damien Poulain. Music videos for "Decent Days and Nights", "A to B" and "First Day" were directed by Alex Smith of production company Black Dog Films, the video for "Hounds of Love" was directed by Patrick Daughters, also of Black Dog Films, and the video for "Meantime" was directed by Sam Arthur of production company Academy Films. ''Nul Book Standard'' is an EP by British band The Futureheads. Their first official release, the EP came out in 2002 on the Project Cosmonaut label. Tracks A2 and B2 are different recordings to those found on their debut album. Background As the Futureheads were sending demo discs to record labels, Matt Wilkinson - who was working for Rough Trade Records at the time, and looking to set up a label of his own - got ahold of one of them. Wilkinson felt potential in the Sunderland quartet, even "started shaking it was that good" listening to the tape. He said about the band's music: Wilkinson created the Project Cosmonaut label with his friend Nick Ellson, and contacted guitarist and vocalist Ross Millard to sign them. 4Music was a British music television channel owned and operated by Channel Four Television Corporation. Launched on 15 August 2008, the original incarnation, replacing The Hits television channel, showed a mix of music and entertainment programming. On 29 June 2022, 4Music transitioned to a full-time channel on the space formerly containing Box Hits, with E4 Extra, a new sister channel and extension of E4, taking over its original space.
