679 Artists (formally known as Sixsevenine and 679 Recordings) was a Warner Music Group-owned record label based in London, England. It was started by Nick Worthington who after leaving XL Recordings in 2001, started the company with Warner Music Group, and holds the position of MD and A&R Director. It is named "679" as this was the address of the Pure Groove record shop on Holloway Road. The label's first release was The Streets' debut, '' Original Pirate Material'' (which was named ''The Observer''s best album of the 2000s). The label progressed with subsequent albums from artists including Death From Above 1979, The Futureheads, Kano, King Creosote and Mystery Jets, and also included the million-selling second Streets album, '' A Grand Don't Come for Free''. Annie (Norwegian Singer)
Anne Lilia Berge Strand (born 21 November 1977), known professionally as Annie, is a Norwegian singer, songwriter, record producer and DJ. She began her recording career in 1999 with the underground hit single " The Greatest Hit" and gained international acclaim, particularly from music bloggers, for her debut album '' Anniemal'' (2004). After completing secondary school, Annie started DJing in Bergen, where she met house producer and soon-to-be boyfriend Tore Kroknes. In 1999, Annie and Kroknes released the single "The Greatest Hit", which sold out in two days and became popular in Norwegian and British nightclubs. Before Annie and Kroknes could release an album, Kroknes died from a congenital heart defect in 2001. The Rifles are an English indie rock band from Chingford, London. Their debut album '' No Love Lost'' was released on 17 July 2006 and initially reached No. 68 in the UK Albums Chart. The Polyphonic Spree is an American choral rock band from Dallas, Texas that was formed in 2000 by singer/songwriter Tim DeLaughter. The band's pop and rock songs are augmented by a large vocal choir, and instruments such as flute, trumpet, french horn, trombone, violin, viola, cello, percussion, piano, guitars, bass, drums, electronic keyboards, and EWI. History DeLaughter's previous group, Tripping Daisy, came to an abrupt end in 1999 when guitarist Wes Berggren died of a drug overdose. The Polyphonic Spree was formed, in part, in reaction to Berggren's death. In 2000, DeLaughter collaborated with 12 other musicians to put together a sound that reflected the music he grew up with. The Earlies
The Earlies are a band formed by Christian Madden and Giles Hatton from Lancashire, England, and Brandon Carr and John Mark Lapham from the United States. They are notable for blending elements from a wide range of musical genres and have been described as both "a very English kind of folk-psychedelia... with a smattering of Beach Boys harmonies" by ''The Independent'', and "country-meets-prog-meets-electronica symphonies" by ''The Guardian''. In the late 1990s, prior to his Earlies days, Lapham released ambient electronic music, under the name Autio, on Manchester record label Beatnik Records.
