Barry Andrews (musician)
Barry Andrews (born 12 September 1956) is an English songwriter, singer and keyboard player who is a co-founder of Shriekback and was formerly a member of XTC and the League of Gentlemen. Early life Barry William Andrews was born in West Norwood, London, on 12 September, 1956, the only child of bricklayer William Andrews and Minnie, a housewife. Andrews attended Hitherfield Primary School in South-East London before moving with his family to Park North, Swindon, at the age of seven. He attended Park North Junior School, Richard Jefferies Secondary School and Park Senior High School, leaving full-time education in 1976. Career On leaving school, Andrews played keyboards in covers bands in Swindon and Exeter before joining XTC in 1978. He played on the band’s first two albums, '' White Music'' and '' Go 2'', before leaving in 1979. Shriekback
Shriekback are an English rock band formed in 1981 in Kentish Town by Barry Andrews, formerly of XTC and the League of Gentlemen (keyboards/synthesizers/vocals), and Dave Allen, formerly of Gang of Four (bass guitar), with Carl Marsh, formerly of Out on Blue Six (guitars/vocals) soon added to the line-up. The band's early music was a funk-influenced version of new wave and post-punk, later moving towards art rock and always featuring "insidiously weird vocals". Ivan Král (12 May 1948 – 2 February 2020) was a Czech Americans, Czech-born American composer, filmmaker, guitarist, record producer, bassist, and singer-songwriter. Martyn Barker
Martyn Barker Born 14 September 1959 in Ellesmere Port Merseyside. Is an English drummer, percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer, best known as the drummer for Shriekback. He has also been a member of King Swamp. Barker has worked and performed with Robert Plant, Ray Davies, Mick Ronson, Goldfrapp, Marianne Faithfull, Sarah Jane Morris, Billy Bragg, Beth Gibbons, Rustin Man, Alain Bashung, Juliette Gréco, and Justin Adams. He co-wrote 14 Shriekback albums as well as many songs on the Billy Bragg and the Blokes album ''England, Half-English'' and has produced and drummed for acts worldwide. Andy Partridge
Andrew John Partridge (born 11 November 1953) is an English guitarist, singer-songwriter and record producer best known for co-founding the band XTC. He and Colin Moulding each acted as a songwriter and frontman for XTC, with Partridge writing and singing about two-thirds of the group's material. While XTC were a formative British New wave music, new wave group, Partridge's songwriting drew heavily from 1960s pop and Psychedelic music, psychedelia and his style gradually shifted to more traditional pop, often with pastoral themes. The band's only UK top 10 hit, "Senses Working Overtime", was written by Partridge. Partridge is sometimes regarded as the "godfather" of the 1990s Britpop movement. Another Day On Earth
''Another Day on Earth'' is the twenty-second solo studio album by Brian Eno, released on 13 June 2005 in the UK and Europe through Hannibal Records, and on 14 June 2005 in the US. The album was predominantly recorded and mixed on Macintosh software, using Logic Pro, over a period of four years. Overview "Bottomliners" and "Under" were first worked on about six years previously, on a DA88, the latter songs' drumming being supplied by Willie Green. On the former, and on the ballad "And Then So Clear" he pitch-shifted his voice up an octave, using the gender-changing function on a Digitech Pro Vocalist creating a vocoder-like effect. His studio features a selection of hardware including a Lexicon Jam Man loop sampler and an Eventide H3000 Harmonizer. The album is actually built around the "And Then So Clear" song. He says "... Gang Of Four (band)
Gang of Four are an English post-punk band, formed in 1976 in Leeds. The original members were singer Jon King, guitarist Andy Gill, bass guitarist Dave Allen and drummer Hugo Burnham. There have been many different line-ups including, among other notable musicians, Sara Lee, Gail Ann Dorsey, Mark Heaney and David Pajo. After a brief lull in the 1980s, different constellations of the band recorded two studio albums in the 1990s. Between 2004 and 2006 the original line-up was reunited; Gill toured using the name between 2012 and his death in 2020. In 2021, the band announced that King, Burnham, and Lee would be reuniting for a US tour in 2022 with David Pajo on guitar and Sara Lee returning to the band. Dave Allen (English Musician)
David Geoffrey Allen (23 December 1955 – 5 April 2025) was an English musician, at one time the bass guitarist for the post-punk band Gang of Four. In 1981 he left the band to form Shriekback. Life and career Allen was born in Kendal, Westmorland, England, on 23 December 1955. He was the bass guitarist for the post-punk band Gang of Four between 1976 and 1981, and played on their first two albums. In 1981 he formed the band Shriekback with Barry Andrews of XTC. He later founded World Domination Recordings and participated in two bands who recorded for the label. Allen was the vocalist and primary songwriter for The Elastic Purejoy, and played bass guitar in Low Pop Suicide which was fronted by Rick Boston. Kevin Michael Wilkinson (11 June 1958 – 17 July 1999) was an English drummer, who was based in Baydon, Wiltshire, England. Sara Lee (musician)
Sara Lee is an English-American bassist and singer-songwriter, who came to prominence when replacing Dave Allen on bass guitar in the post-punk band Gang of Four, of which she was a member from 1982 to 1984. She was also a member of Robert Fripp's short-lived band The League of Gentlemen and is also notable for work with the B-52s, Ani DiFranco, and Indigo Girls. As of October 2021, Lee rejoined Gang of Four with founding members Hugo Burnham and Jon King as well as David Pajo, to tour in 2022.
