Bark (botany)
Bark is the outermost layer of Plant stem, stems and roots of woody plants. Plants with bark include trees, woody vines, and shrubs. Bark refers to all the Tissue (biology), tissues outside the vascular cambium and is a nontechnical term. It overlays the wood and consists of the inner bark and the outer bark. The inner bark, which in older Plant stem, stems is living tissue, includes the innermost layer of the periderm. The outer bark on older stems includes the dead tissue on the surface of the stems, along with parts of the outermost periderm and all the tissues on the outer side of the periderm. The outer bark on trees which lies external to the living periderm is also called the Glossary of botanical terms#rhytidome, rhytidome. Bark River (Rock River)
The Bark River is a tributary of the Rock River, about long,U.S. Geological Survey. Via the Rock River, it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River. According to the Geographic Names Information System, it has also been known historically as the "Peelbark River". The Bark River rises in southern Washington County at Bark Lake In Richfield, WI and flows generally southwestwardly through Waukesha and Jefferson counties, past the communities of Hartland, Delafield, Summit Dousman and Rome, and through several small lakes. BARK (organization)
BARK is an Oregon, United States, non-profit organization that was created to combat logging, clear-cutting, deforestation and projects members say cause "commercial destruction" in Oregon forests, specifically those of the Mt. Hood National Forest. Formation In 1993, Greg Dyson and John "Lenny" Rancher began a "call to action" when they noticed clear-cutting happening on Mt. Hood National Forest, which surrounds the Mt. Hood stratovolcano in northern Oregon that is part of the Cascade Volcanic Arc. Upset with the old growth logging and the environmental impact of clear-cutting, Dyson and Rancher began training volunteers to bring attention to destructive logging practices. The two began to hike to each proposed timber sale in the forest and documenting the discrepancy between agency documents and on the ground conditions in the forest. BARK () was an early Electromechanics, electromechanical computer built in 1950. BARK was built using standard relay, telephone relays, implementing a 32-bit binary machine. It could perform addition in 150 ms and multiplication in 250 ms. It had a memory with 50 Hardware register, registers and 100 constants. It was later expanded to double the memory. Howard Aiken stated in reference to BARK "This is the first computer I have seen outside Harvard that actually works." History BARK was developed by ''Matematikmaskinnämnden'' (Swedish Board for Computing Machinery) a few years before BESK. The machine was built with 8,000 standard telephone relays, 80 km of cable and with 175,000 soldering points. Programming was done by plugboard. Pyotr Lvovich Bark (; ; 18 April 1869 – 16 January 1937), later Sir Peter Bark was a Russian government official and later a banker. Biography Bark was born in Novotroitskoye village in Yekaterinoslav Governorate. He descended from a Baltic-German family in Estonia. His father Karl Ludwig Bark (later Ludwig Genrikhovich after converting to the Russian Orthodox faith) was a forestry manager for the Royal forests. After studying law at St. Petersburg university, Pyotr Bark entered the Credit Chancellery of the Ministry of Finance in 1891. Later he acted as a private secretary to the governor of the State Bank of Russia. In 1903 he went to Berlin to study banking with Mendelssohn & Co. On his return he was appointed manager of the foreign department of the State Bank. Later he became deputy Governor of the State Bank. Jane Ulla Margareta Bark née Årfelt (9 April 1931 – 14 January 2023) was a Swedish illustrator. She worked first as a commercial artist for ''Dagens Nyheter'' and went on to illustrate stories in various magazines including ' in the 1960s and 1970s. She later contributed portraits of Swedish celebrities to the magazine '' Fokus''. Her awards included the Swedish advertising prize Platinaägget (The Platinum Egg) in 1985. Ernst Moritz Heinrich Bark Schultz (1858–1922), also known as Ernesto Bark, was a Livonian writer, journalist and political activist based in Spain. He took part in the Bohemian scene in Madrid. Biography Born on 23 March 1858 in Kaava, Laiuse, in the vicinity of Dorpart in Estonia, then part of the Russian Empire. Regarding his self-identification, aside from presenting himself as a Livonian, he declared to have three nationalities: "the German one from an ethnographic standpoint, the Russian one from a political standpoint (and unfortunately) and the Spanish one because of affection and love".
