Barizo
Barizo is a fishing town in the northern part of Spain, specifically along the Costa da Morte in the province of A Coruña in the autonomous region of Galicia. Economy Barizo's economy depends mostly on fishing. Conveniently located along the Costa da Morte, Barizo is also dubbed as a resort town. Accommodations in this town are mostly consisted of small hotels offering cheap rates. Barizo is also known as an estuarine site. Prestige Oil Spill Barizo is one of the towns affected by the Prestige oil spill which happened off the Galician coast. Costa Da Morte
Costa da Morte (; "Coast of Death") is a part of the Galician coast. The most common definition of the Costa da Morte states that it extends from Cape Finisterre to Malpica, although some may debate it extends from Muros to A Coruña. Background The Costa da Morte received its name because there have been so many shipwrecks along its treacherous rocky shore. The shore of the Costa da Morte is exposed directly to the Atlantic Ocean. It is an area that has suffered a number of oil spills, including the spill from the ''Prestige'' in 2002. The exterior cape region is known for anthropological, historical and geographical reasons. Prestige Oil Spill
The ''Prestige'' oil spill occurred off the coast of Galicia, Spain in November 2002, caused by the sinking of the 26-year-old, structurally deficient oil tanker , carrying 77,000 tonnes of heavy fuel oil. During a storm, it burst a tank on 13 November, and French, Spanish, and Portuguese governments refused to allow the ship to dock. The vessel subsequently sank on 19 November, about from the coast of Galicia. It is estimated that it spilled 60,000 tonnes or a volume of of heavy fuel oil. The oil spill polluted 2300 kilometers (1429 miles) of coastline and more than one thousand beaches on the Spanish, French and Portuguese coast, as well as causing great harm to the local fishing industry.
