Baltimore (tug)
''Baltimore'' is a preserved steam-powered tugboat, built in 1906 by the Skinner Shipbuilding Company of Baltimore, Maryland. She is formerly the oldest operating steam tugboat in the United States, but at present does not hold an operating license issued by the US Coast Guard, so is unable to leave her dock at the Baltimore Museum of Industry on Key Highway, Baltimore. Her hull is not capable of operating on open water. ''Baltimore'' was built and operated as a harbor inspection tug, capable of acting as a municipal tugboat for city barges, as well as an official welcoming vessel and VIP launch, an auxiliary fireboat, and as a light icebreaker. She was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1993, and is part of the Baltimore Museum of Industry. The Baltimore and Chesapeake Steamboat Co., a nonprofit organization, was established to maintain the tugboat. German Submarine Deutschland
''Deutschland'' was a Blockade runner, blockade-breaking German Empire, German merchant submarine used during World War I. It was developed with private funds and operated by the Norddeutscher Lloyd, North German Lloyd Line. She was the first of seven -class U-boats built and one of only two used as unarmed cargo submarines. After making two voyages as an unarmed merchantman, she was taken over by the German Imperial Navy on 19 February 1917 and converted into ''U-155'', armed with six torpedo tubes and two deck guns. History Of Baltimore
The history of Baltimore spans back to 1659, when the Baltimore County was declared erected by the General Assembly of Maryland. The area where the city now lays was settled by David Jones in 1661. While this has been inhabited by Indigenous people since the 10th millennium BCE, it was not until European settlers arrived that it was given the name Baltimore, after the Province of Maryland's founding proprietor. The city of Baltimore was founded in 1729. Early on, it was largely populated by German immigrants. The city gained prominence as a major hub for trade and commerce after successfully fending off British forces during the War of 1812.
