Bala (1976 Film)
''Bala'' is a 1976 documentary film made by Satyajit Ray, about a Bharatanatyam dancer, Balasaraswati, fondly known as "Bala". The film was jointly produced by National Centre for the Performing Arts (India), National Centre for the Performing Arts and Government of Tamil Nadu. The thirty-three-minute documentary features the life and some of the works by Balasaraswati in the form of narration and dance, starring herself. At the age of fourteen, Ray had seen a performance of Balasaraswati in Kolkata, then known as "Calcutta", in 1935, when she was seventeen years old. Ray had initially planned to make a film on Bala in 1966, when she was in her prime, however he could not start filming until 1976. Though Bala was often called "a revolutionary Bharatanatyam dancer", she had never been filmed till she was 58 years old, in spite of having a career spanned over four decades. Bala Lake
Bala Lake, or (), is a large freshwater glacial lake in Gwynedd, Wales. The River Dee, which has its source on the slopes of Dduallt in the mountains of Snowdonia, feeds the long by wide lake. It was the largest natural body of water in Wales even before its level was raised by Thomas Telford to provide water for the Ellesmere Canal (later Llangollen Canal). The town of Bala, which was once an important centre for the North Wales woollen trade, is located on the north-eastern end of the lake. Bala Ganapati (, , literally "child Ganapati") is an aspect of the Hindu god Ganesha (Ganapati), the elephant-headed of wisdom and fortune, depicted as a child. There are few portrayals of Ganesha as a small boy caressed by his parents, Parvati and Shiva. An infant Ganesha is also depicted held in his mother Parvati's lap or over her shoulder. Independent portrayals of Bala Ganapati depict as seated or crawling. A bronze from South India shows Ganesha as an infant crawling on his knees. He has four arms. Bala Tripurasundari (), also known as Balambika, is variously described as the younger aspect and daughter of the Hindu goddess Tripura Sundari. She is a tutelary goddess of the Tantric Shri Vidya tradition. Literature In the Brahmanda Purana, Bala Tripurasundari is mentioned in chapter 26 of the Lalita Mahatmya, where she seeks to battle against the forces of the asura Bhandasura. Bearing the appearance of a nine year old, but possessing great prowess, she sought her mother's permission to slay the sons of the asura. The goddess Tripura Sundari demurred, raising objections of her daughter's young age, her love for her, as well as pointing out there were a number of Matrikas ready to join the fray. When her daughter insisted, the goddess gave in, offering her her very own armour and a number of weapons. The Five Strengths (Sanskrit, Pali: ') in Buddhism are faith, energy, mindfulness, concentration, and wisdom. Bala is a compact rural community in the township (Canada)#Ontario, township municipality of Muskoka Lakes, District Municipality of Muskoka in Central Ontario, Canada. Bala Cynwyd ( ) is a community and census-designated place in Lower Merion Township, Pennsylvania, United States.
