Bacău Metropolitan Area
The Bacău metropolitan area is a proposed metropolitan area project that includes the urban area of Bacău. It includes the communes of Letea Veche, Buhoci, Luizi-Călugăra, Săucești, Hemeiuș, Gârleni, Racova, Mărgineni, Măgura and others, and would extend to the town of Buhuși. If completed, the metropolitan would have an estimated population of 188,709 (as per 2011 census). Luizi-Călugăra ( hu, Lujzikalagor) is a commune in Bacău County, Western Moldavia, Romania. It is composed of two villages, Luizi-Călugăra and Osebiți. Functional Urban Area
The larger urban zone (LUZ), or functional urban area (FUA), is a measure of the population and expanse of metropolitan and surrounding areas which may or may not be exclusively urban. It consists of a city and its commuting zone outside it. The definition was introduced in 2004 by Eurostat, the statistical agency of the European Union (EU), in agreement with the national statistics offices in the member states. Eurostat data is provided only for zones in the EU countries, candidate countries and EFTA countries. Several cities were excluded by definition from the 2004 list of LUZs on technical, definitional grounds, such as the coincidence of the metropolitan area with the urban zone. 2011 Romanian Census
The 2011 Romanian census was a census held in Romania between 20 and 31 October 2011. It was performed by some 120,000 census takers in around 101,000 statistic sectors throughout the country established by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) of Romania. Preparations started already in 2009, and it was announced that the process would not end until 2014. Anyone who did not answer questions in the census questionnaire would be fined between 1,500 and 4,500 Romanian lei, although 4 of the 100 questions related to the respondent's ethnicity, mother language, religion, and possible disabilities were not mandatory. Preliminary results were released once on 2 February 2012 and again on 20 August 2012. The final definitive result of the census came out on 4 July 2013, showing that, among other things, Romania had lost 1,559,300 people since the 2002 census, consequently having 20,121,641 inhabitants. Buhuși
Buhuși (; hu, Buhus; yi, באהוש, Bohush) is a town in Bacău County, Romania with a population of 14,562 (2011). It was first mentioned in the 15th century when it was named "Bodești" and was a property of an important family of Boyars named "Buhuș". The town had the biggest textile factory in south-eastern Europe. But the factory has drastically reduced its capabilities after 1989 and currently employs less than 200 workers. The Runc Monastery (built in 1457), located near Buhuși, is one of the famous monasteries built by Stephen the Great of Moldavia in Moldavia during the Ottoman Wars in the 15th century. Buhuși has five primary schools and one high school, the Ion Borcea Technical College. The town administers two villages, Marginea and Runcu.
