Bacolod Master Sardines
The Bacolod Tubo Slashers are a Filipino professional basketball team based in Bacolod. The team competes in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) as a member of the league's South Division. The team most recently played its home games at La Salle Coliseum. The team was founded as the Bacolod Master Sardines when it began play in the 2019–20 season and has since undergone multiple monikers. They also took part in FilBasket during the 2022 Summer Championship. The Bacolod franchise is one of two teams based in Visayas, the other being the Cebu Classic, and previously shared the Negros Island Region with the Negros Muscovados from 2023 to 2024. Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League
The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) is a men's regional professional basketball league in the Philippines composed of 30 teams. Founded in 2017 by eight-division boxing world champion and then-Senator Manny Pacquiao, the MPBL is not intended to be a competitor to the top-flight Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), but rather to provide a gateway for local, homegrown talents to showcase their skills. The league uses a home-and-away format, similar to the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association. The MPBL started an amateur league before being granted professional status by the Games and Amusements Board. Due to Pacquiao's role in the league, it has also been referred to as Manny Pacquiao's Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. Mark Yee
Mark Yee (born January 4, 1982) is a Filipino professional basketball player for the Abra Solid North Weavers of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL). A two-time Philippine Basketball Association champion, Yee has seen much success after joining the MPBL in 2018, where he won Finals MVP with the Davao Occidental Tigers in 2021. He is also the only player in MPBL history to notch two Defensive Player of the Year awards. He also has three all-star selections on top of his two appearances in the All-MPBL First Team. PBA career Mark Yee declared for the PBA draft in 2008, but wasn't picked. He would still take part in PBA action after joining the Burger King Whoppers. MPBL All-Star Game
The MPBL All-Star Game is an exhibition game hosted by the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League and showcases 30 of the league's star players. It is the main event of the greater MPBL All-Star Day, held during the latter part of the regular season alongside a series of pre-game events within the same day. The first All-Star Game was played at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on March 2, 2019. The two teams, representing the two divisions (North Division (MPBL), North and South Division (MPBL), South), are composed of fifteen players from the representing division. The head coaches of the team with the best record in each division leading up to All-Star gameday are chosen to coach their respective teams. MPBL Defensive Player Of The Year Award
The MPBL Defensive Player of the Year award is an annual Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League award given to the player with the best defensive performance in the regular season. It was first awarded during the 2018–19 MPBL season. As of 2024, four players have won the award, with Mark Yee being the only recipient to have won the award more than once. 2024 MPBL Season
The 2024 MPBL season was the sixth season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) and its third under professional status. The regular season began on April 6, 2024 with the opening ceremonies at the Calasiao Sports Complex in Calasiao, Pangasinan, and ended on October 1. The 2024 MPBL All-Star Game was held at the Mayor Vitaliano D. Agan Coliseum in Zamboanga City on September 7. The playoffs began on October 5 and ended on December 7 with the 2024 MPBL finals between the Pampanga Giant Lanterns and Quezon Huskers. The Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards (shortened as NERV) are a Filipino professional basketball team based in Palayan, Nueva Ecija. The team competes in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) as a member of the league's North Division. The team plays its home games at Nueva Ecija Coliseum. The team began play as an expansion team for the 2019–20 MPBL season, though they would only begin using the ''Rice Vanguards'' moniker later on. 2025 MPBL Season
The 2025 MPBL season is the seventh season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) and its fourth under professional status. The regular season began on March 8, 2025 with the opening ceremony at the Capital Arena in Ilagan, Isabela. The season will end in December with the 2025 MPBL finals. This season features 30 teams. The league expanded to the Cagayan Valley region for the first time with the addition of the Ilagan Isabela Cowboys. Three teams (Basilan Viva Portmasters, Cebu Classic, and Pasig City MPBL team, Pasig City) made their comebacks. The Converge FiberXers are a professional basketball team owned by Converge ICT. The team competes in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). The franchise began after acquiring the former Alaska Aces franchise on March 23, 2022. History Formation On February 16, 2022, Alaska Milk Corporation (AMC) announced that the Alaska Aces would leave the PBA at the end of the 2021 Governors' Cup. This was due to a directive by FrieslandCampina, parent company of AMC. Several companies expressed interest to buy the Aces or its franchise. Alexander Cabagnot Jr. (born December 8, 1982) is a Filipino professional basketball player for the Basilan Viva Portmasters of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) and assistant coach for the UE Red Warriors of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). Bacoor City Strikers
The Bacoor City Strikers were a Filipino professional basketball team, based in Bacoor, Cavite. The team last competed in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) and played their home games at Strike Gymnasium. The Strikers also previously shared the province of Cavite with the team now known as the Imus Braderhood. Owned by the Local Government of Bacoor, the team joined the league in the 2018–19 season, becoming the second team based in Cavite after the Imus Bandera.
