Babylon is an intermodal transportation hub in the village of Babylon (village), New York, Babylon, New York, located at Railroad Avenue, west of County Route 34 (Suffolk County, New York), Deer Park Avenue (CR 34). It is on the Montauk Branch of the Long Island Rail Road and is the eastern terminus of service on the LIRR's Babylon Branch – and additionally serves as a major hub for Suffolk County Transit buses. Suffolk County Transit
Suffolk County Transit is the provider of bus services in Suffolk County, New York, on Long Island and is an agency of the Suffolk County government. It was founded in 1980 as a county-run oversight and funding agency for a group of private contract operators which had previously provided such services on their own. While the physical maintenance and operation of the buses continue to be provided by these providers, other matters ranging from bus purchases to route and schedule planning to fare rules are set by Suffolk Transit itself. Though serving the entirety of Suffolk County, the one exception is in Huntington, located in the northwestern part of the county, where that town's private operator declined to join Suffolk Transit. Ronkonkoma (signed as Ronkonkoma LI MacArthur Airport) is a major railroad station and transportation hub along the Main Line of the Long Island Rail Road in Ronkonkoma, Suffolk County, New York. The station is the eastern terminus of the Ronkonkoma Branch and the western terminus of the Greenport Branch, and it also serves the adjacent Long Island MacArthur Airport. West Islip, New York
West Islip is a hamlet and CDP settled in 1683, located in the Town of Islip, in Suffolk County, New York, United States. Situated on the South Shore of Long Island, the population of the CDP was 27,048 at the time of the 2020 census. History The first people to settle in the area were the Secatogue Native Americans. The unearthing of a Native American burial ground north of West Islip beach enabled historians to reconstruct a village of these Native Americans who lived along the edges of the Great South Bay, Sampawams Creek, Trues Creek and Willetts Creek. Babylon Rail Road
The Babylon Rail Road was a horsecar line in Babylon Village, New York, later converted to a trolley line. It was opened in 1871 and ceased operations in 1920. The line's main purpose was to provide transportation between the Long Island Rail Road station at the north end of the village center, to ferries for Jones Beach and Fire Island destinations.
