Azeemiyya
The Azeemi Sufi Order, known in Urdu as ''Silsila Azeemiyya'' (سلسلہ عظيمیہ), and in Arabic as ''Al-Ṭarīqah al-Aẓeemiyyah'' (الطريقة عظيمية) is a Sufi Tariqa (religious order) named after and founded by Muhammad Azeem Barkhiya, also known as Qalandar Baba Auliya. It was established in 1960 (1380 AH) in Karachi, Pakistan. There are more than 100 Azeemi centers (Muraqaba Halls) internationally. The order was headed by Muhammad Azeem Barkhiya until he died in 1980, and then by Khwaja Shamsuddin Azeemi until his death in February 2025. Waqar Yusuf Azeemi is the current and third head of the order, succeeding Khwaja Shamsuddin Azeemi. Shamsuddin Azeemi
Khawaja Shamsuddin Azeemi (; 17 October 1927 – 21 February 2025) was a Pakistani Islamic scholar and a prominent master of Tassawuf (Sufism), holding Ijazah and authorisation from his Murshid, Muhammad Azeem Barkhiya, the founder and Shaykh of Silsila Azeemiyya. As the second head of the Azeemiyya order, he played a pivotal role in its expansion and teachings. Azeemi authored over 20 books on Rūhaniyat (spirituality) and Muraqaba (meditation) and served as the chief editor of the monthly ''Roohani Digest'' and ''Qalander Shaoor'' in Karachi, Pakistan. He also established a global network of 53 meditation centres, promoting spiritual development and self-awareness. Personal life and death Azeemi was the son of Anis Ahmed Ansari and Umat-ur-Rehman. Muhammad Azeem Barkhiya
Imam Hassan Ukhra Muhammad Azeem Barkhiya (1898 – 27 January 1979) (), commonly referred to as Qalandar Baba Auliya (Urdu: ), was the founding Imam and Spiritual Master of the Silsila Azeemiyya, Azeemiyya Tariqa, Sufi Order, which takes its name from him. He was a Scholar of Tassawuf, and is considered to be of the Abdal, Abdāl, commonly being known by his honorific "Abdāl Haqq" (Urdu: ). He appointed Shamsuddin Azeemi, Khawaja Shamsuddin Azeemi as head of the Silsila, and passed on 27 January 1979. Every January, his Urs (Death Anniversary) is conducted in which members of the Silsila congregate to recite the Quran and conduct gathering on matters of Tassawuf. His resting place is located in the Shadman district of Karachi, Pakistan. Tariqa
A ''tariqa'' () is a religious order of Sufism, or specifically a concept for the mystical teaching and spiritual practices of such an order with the aim of seeking , which translates as "ultimate truth". A tariqa has a (guide) who plays the role of leader or spiritual director. The members or followers of a tariqa are known as (singular '), meaning "desirous", viz. "desiring the knowledge of God and loving God" (also called a '). The murshid of the tariqa is also believed to be the same as the '' tzadik'' of Judaism, meaning the "rightly guided one".
