Axe-FX
Fractal Audio Systems, often shortened to Fractal, is an American audio equipment manufacturer founded in 2006. Fractal became pioneers of the high-end digital amplifier modeling market with the release of the rack-mount Axe-FX, which has been credited as the first amp modelling and effects system convincing enough for professional use. History Fractal was founded by Cliff Chase, who designed both the software and hardware of the company's debut product, the Axe-FX. Although classified as an "amplifier modeler," Chase has disputed the label, stating his priority was not exact emulation of classic guitar amps but rather recreating their sounds in the context of a modern device which emphasized expanded tonal control. The Axe-FX has been adopted by many notable guitarists, particularly for live rigs, such as Steve Vai, John Petrucci, Matt Belamy, and Alex Lifeson. Metallica switched to Fractal equipment after using it in their ''Freeze 'Em All'' performance in Antarctica, ...

Amplifier Modeling
Amplifier modeling (also known as amp modeling or amp emulation) is the process of emulating a physical amplifier such as a guitar amplifier. Amplifier modeling often seeks to recreate the sound of one or more specific models of vacuum tube amplifiers and sometimes also solid state amplifiers. Types of modeling devices ;Digital amp modelers :Standalone modeling devices such as the Line 6 POD and Fractal Axe-FX digitize the input signal and use a DSP, a dedicated microprocessor, to process the signal with digital computation, attempting to achieve the sound of expensive professional amplifiers in a much less costly and more compact device. These modelers can be connected directly to a recording device or PA system without having to use a power section, speaker cabinet and microphone; however, there is an ongoing debate over the question of how accurately a modeler can recreate the sound of a real amplifier. Most modelers generally also include a variety of effects apart from th ...

Alex Lifeson
Aleksandar Živojinović (born 27 August 1953), known professionally as Alex Lifeson (), is a Canadian musician, best known as the guitarist for the rock band Rush. In 1968, he co-founded a band (which later became Rush) with drummer John Rutsey and bassist and lead vocalist Jeff Jones. One month later, Jones was succeeded by Geddy Lee and in 1974, Rutsey was succeeded by Neil Peart. The lineup remained unchanged until the band's dissolution in 2018. Lifeson was the only member of Rush who stayed in the band throughout its entire existence, and he and Lee were the only members to appear on all of the band's albums. With Rush, Lifeson played electric and acoustic guitar, and other various string instruments such as mandola, mandolin, and bouzouki. He also performed backing vocals in live performances and select studio recordings, and occasionally played keyboards and bass pedal synthesizers. Each band member sometimes performed real-time on-stage triggering of sampled instrum ...

Neural DSP
Neural DSP Technologies is a Finnish audio equipment manufacturer founded in 2017 by Douglas Castro and Francisco Cresp. Headquartered in Punavuori, Helsinki, the company is best known for its flagship guitar amp modeler, the Quad Cortex, and for its audio plug-ins that create computer-based virtual amplifier and effects modelling suites. The company is considered a leading developer of guitar signal processing technology. History In 2016, Douglas Castro, the founder of bass guitar equipment company Darkglass, was approached by employee Francisco Cresp about creating an audio plug-in for the company. Castro was interested, and the pair—both Chilean immigrants in Helsinki—ultimately decided to develop a range of plug-ins for both bass and guitar, in addition to a potential modeler. However, they chose to develop products as a new company to preserve Darkglass' bass-oriented brand identity. Neural DSP began recruiting designers in late 2017 and early 2018, and in that ...

Dumble Amplifiers
Dumble was a guitar amplifier manufacturer in Los Angeles. In a one-person operation, Alexander "Howard" Dumble (June 1, 1944 – January 16, 2022) made each amp personally. Thus Dumble amplifiers are the most expensive boutique amplifiers on the used market and prices have risen rapidly. In 2012, Vintage Guitar (magazine), ''Vintage Guitar'' magazine said the Dumble Overdrive Special is the most valuable in the product line, with used amplifiers fetching between $70,000 and $150,000. Other models have sold for more. Dumble built two or three amplifiers per year, primarily for celebrity musicians and studios. He priced them similarly to the used market to dissuade resale. Dumble serviced and refurbished his original amplifiers for a fee, and many players bought used Dumble amplifiers and had him refurbish them. Carlos Santana and Ben Harper, for example, both bought their first Dumble used, and had Dumble refurbish the amp for their particular playing styles. History Howard Alexan ...

Guitar Effects Manufacturing Companies
The guitar is a stringed musical instrument that is usually fretted (with some exceptions) and typically has six or twelve strings. It is usually held flat against the player's body and played by strumming or plucking the strings with the dominant hand, while simultaneously pressing selected strings against frets with the fingers of the opposite hand. A guitar pick may also be used to strike the strings. The sound of the guitar is projected either acoustically, by means of a resonant hollow chamber on the guitar, or amplified by an electronic pickup and an amplifier. The guitar is classified as a chordophone, meaning the sound is produced by a vibrating string stretched between two fixed points. Historically, a guitar was constructed from wood, with its strings made of catgut. Steel guitar strings were introduced near the end of the nineteenth century in the United States, but nylon and steel strings became mainstream only following World War II. The guitar's ancestors i ...

Manufacturing Companies Established In 2006
Manufacturing is the creation or production of goods with the help of equipment, labor, machines, tools, and chemical or biological processing or formulation. It is the essence of the secondary sector of the economy. The term may refer to a range of human activity, from handicraft to high-tech, but it is most commonly applied to industrial design, in which raw materials from the primary sector are transformed into finished goods on a large scale. Such goods may be sold to other manufacturers for the production of other more complex products (such as aircraft, household appliances, furniture, sports equipment or automobiles), or distributed via the tertiary industry to end users and consumers (usually through wholesalers, who in turn sell to retailers, who then sell them to individual customers). Manufacturing engineering is the field of engineering that designs and optimizes the manufacturing process, or the steps through which raw materials are transformed into a final produ ...

Kemper Amps
The Kemper Profiler is a digital amp modeling and multi-effects product line for electric guitar and bass from German brand Kemper. The amp line pioneered "profiling," also known as "capturing," a combination of hardware and software that allows users to create digital versions of their own amplifier, cabinet, and microphone setup, whereas traditional modelers offer only pre-programmed options. History Cristoph Kemper, inventor of the Access Virus synthesizer, turned to developing guitar products in 2006, feeling that, while digital modelers were already being produced by other companies, guitarists were not satisfied with the technology in a way that Kemper could change. To this end, Kemper developed "profiling" technology—whereas traditional modelers offer users digital amp simulations programmed in-house, profilers give users the ability to create digital "snapshots" of their own amplifier, effects, and microphone setup, as well as share profiles with other users online. ...
