Austria's Strongest Man
Austria's Strongest Man is an annual strongman contest consisting of exclusively Austrian strength athletes. The event was established in 1989, the inaugural winner was Manfred Hoeberl who would go on to win the title a total of 7 times. Martin Wildauer
Martin Wildauer (born 27 November 1987) is an Austrian strongman competitor and entrant to the World's Strongest Man competition. He is a competitor of the well-known Strongman Champions League and the Giants Live competitions. Martin is the current world record holder in the bavarian stonelift. Biography Martin was born in Kufstein, Tirol in Austria on 27 November 1987. He was a sports enthusiast even as a child and at the age of 10 started kickboxing. After winning some national competitions in Austria after two years he began boxing but due to school commitments he found he did not have the time to commit to boxing. With the time he did have he began weight training and although his parents tried to encourage this further by buying him weights at home he found that the best environment for his progress was the gym. In the 19th century, the term strongman referred to an exhibitor of strength or similar circus performers who performed feats of strength. More recently, strength athletics, also known as strongman competitions, have grown in popularity. These competitions are now composed of a variety of events in which competitors have to move the highest weights possible, the winner being the one having the highest tally across all events. Description In the first half of the 20th century, strongmen would perform various feats of strength such as the bent press (not to be confused with the bench press, which did not exist at the time), supporting large amounts of weight held overhead at arm's length, steel bending, chain breaking, etc. They needed to have large amounts of wrist, hand, and tendon strength for these feats, as well as prodigious oblique strength. Manfred Hoeberl
Manfred Hoeberl (; born 12 May 1964) is an Austrian former strongman and powerlifter who was known as having the largest arms in the world during the early-mid 1990s. Hoeberl was born in the same town as bodybuilding legend and former Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Life and career Hoeberl won the Europe's Strongest Man twice (1993, 1994), the World Muscle Power Classic twice (1993, 1994) and was runner up at the 1994 World's Strongest Man competition, narrowly missing the title to Magnús Ver Magnússon by 0.87 seconds in the final Atlas Stones event. Hoeberl competed in the World's Strongest Man finals in 1991 and 1993, finishing 8th and 4th respectively. Hoeberl won Austria's Strongest Man 7 times, from 1989-1994 & 1996.
