Augustus Stoneman
Augustus Frederick Stoneman (April 2, 1832 – April 10, 1905) was a merchant and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Yarmouth County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1900 to 1903 as a Liberal member. He was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, the son of Joseph Stoneman and Mary Lewis. In 1859, he married Maria D. Richan. Stoneman was a justice of the peace and served as mayor of Yarmouth in 1899. William Law (Canadian Politician)
William Law (August 5, 1833 – November 21, 1901) was a merchant and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Yarmouth County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1886 to 1900 as a Liberal member. He was born in Belfast, Ireland and came to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia in October 1847. The Legislative Council of Nova Scotia was the upper house of the legislature of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. It existed from 1838 to May 31, 1928. From the establishment of responsible government in 1848, members were appointed by the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia on the advice of the Premier. Before Confederation The Legislative Council had its origins in the older unified Nova Scotia Council, created in 1719 and appointed in 1720, which exercised a combination of executive and judicial functions. Its functions were more formally specified in instructions issued by the Board of Trade in 1729. Yarmouth is a town in southwestern Nova Scotia, Canada. A port town, industries include fishing, and tourism. It is the terminus of a ferry service to Bar Harbor, Maine, run by Bay Ferries.
