August 24th Movement
The August 24th Movement ( it, Movimento 24 Agosto, M24A) – officially called Territorial Equity Movement ( it, Movimento Equità Territoriale, MET) – is a regionalist political party in Italy, launched in August 2019. Its leader is the journalist Pino Aprile. History During the 2019 Italian government crisis, Pino Aprile called for a meeting on 24 August in the Grancia Park, Basilicata, near Brindisi Montagna, to counter Matteo Salvini's victory in the snap election he requested. More than 500 people from the southern regions of Italy attended the meeting and the foundation of the party, including senator Saverio De Bonis, criticizing the differentiated autonomy pursued by Lombardy, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna. On 13 October, Aprile officially presented the charter of the party and its logo in the " Aroldo Tieri" movie theatre in Cosenza. Aroldo Tieri (28 August 1917 – 28 December 2006) was an Italian actor. He appeared in more than 100 films between 1939 and 1969. Life and career Born in Corigliano Calabro, son of the journalist and playwright Vincenzo Tieri, Aroldo Tieri moved in Rome at 18 to study law at university, and in the meanwhile approached acting and enrolled the Accademia Nazionale di Arte Drammatica Silvio D'Amico. 2017 Venetian Autonomy Referendum
The Venetian autonomy referendum of 2017 took place on 22 October in Veneto, Italy. The poll was not binding, but it might have consequences in terms of negotiations between the Italian government and Veneto as the regional government declared that it would ask for more devolved powers whether fthe "yes" won. According to Mario Bertolissi, law professor and advisor to the regional government, the referendum would have "constituent power". Others considered it pointless while supporters of unitarianism in Italy counter-productive. As expected, the "yes" vote did succeed. Turnout was 57.2% and 98.1% of participants voted "yes". The 2017 Lombard autonomy referendum took place on 22 October in Lombardy, Italy. The poll was not binding, but it might have consequences in terms of negotiations between the Italian government and Lombardy as the regional government will ask for more devolved powers since the "yes" won.
