George Attfield
George Cooke Attfield (27 January 1826 – 16 January 1925) was an English medical practitioner and first-class cricketer. Early life and background George Attfield was born at Bath, Somerset. The entry in the Rugby School register for his brother William Attfield, also a cricketer, gives their father as "Rev. W. Attfield, Park-Street", Bath. The Rev. William Attfield, a graduate of Oriel College, Oxford, died at 14 Park Street, Bath in 1861, aged 71; a newspaper report from 1926 confirms he was George's father, and states he played twice for the Gentlemen against the Players. From 1814 he was a curate at St Alkmund, Shrewsbury, and in 1821 he married Mary Anne Cooke, third daughter of S. Cooke of Swan Hill House, Shrewsbury. Cricket Attfield's batting style is unknown. Henry Attfield
Henry Attfield (1756 – c. 1829) was an English cricketer who is recorded in a total of 27 matches between 1773 and 1789, 20 of which have been given retrospective first-class status. He played mainly for Chertsey and Surrey sides. Born at Bagshot, he lived for much of his life in Chertsey, where he was a sawyer by trade. Besides Chertsey and Surrey, Attfield played in three matches for England teams, and once for the Duke of Dorset's XI. In addition, he was twice a given man for Hampshire. His name was usually shortened to 'Field' and this was often used on match scorecards. Cricket career Attfield made his first known appearance on 26 August 1773 when, aged just 17, he travelled to Hambledon, Hampshire with the Surrey team for a match against Hambledon Town on Broadhalfpenny Down.He scored seven runs out of Surrey's total of 131 in their first innings and three in their second. Judy Attfield
Judith (Judy) Attfield (1937 – December 2006) was a British design historian who specialized in the feminist approach towards design and design history as well as the cultural values of everyday design. An obituary describes her as "one of the pioneers of contemporary material culture studies who did so much to demonstrate the value of this approach". Biography and research Attfield worked as a designer before studying design history, gaining a master's degree from Middlesex Polytechnic, with a thesis on tufted carpets, followed by a PhD from the University of Brighton in 1992/3, researching the furniture industry, under the supervision of Suzette Worden and Daniel Miller. She taught at the University of Brighton and Winchester School of Art, holding a Leverhulme Emeritus Fellowship in her retirement. John Paul Attfield (born 1962) is a British chemist who is Professor of Materials science in the School of Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh and Director of the Centre for Science at Extreme Conditions (CSEC). Education Attfield was educated at Durham Johnston School in Durham, England and the University of Oxford where he was a student at Magdalen College, Oxford. He was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry followed by a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1987 for his work on chemical crystallography supervised by Anthony Cheetham and Peter Battle. Robin Attfield
Robin Attfield is a British philosopher known for his work on environmental philosophy, ethics, the history of philosophy and the philosophy of religion. He is an Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at Cardiff University. Attfield read Greats (philosophy, classics and ancient history) at Christ Church and theology at Regent's Park College, Oxford. He began lecturing at Cardiff in 1968, completing a PhD at the University of Wales in 1972. He was promoted to Professor in 1992, and was awarded a DLitt by Cardiff in 2008. Roger Attfield
Roger L. Attfield (born 28 November 1939 in Newbury, Berkshire, England) is a Canadian thoroughbred horse trainer and owner and an inductee of both the Canadian and United States horseracing Halls of Fame. In his native England, Attfield had become an accomplished international-level equestrian competitor when he emigrated to Canada in 1970. Five years later he returned to the sport he loved and began working as a trainer of show jumping horses and eventually was offered the chance to train thoroughbred race horses. Instant success led to training opportunities for other owners including for Frank Stronach and Kinghaven Farms where he met with his greatest success. A resident of Nobleton, Ontario, Roger Attfield won the Sovereign Award for Outstanding Trainer a record six times.
