Atriolum Robustum
''Atriolum robustum'' is a Colony (biology), colonial tunicate or sea squirt in the family ''Didemnidae''. It is native to the western and central Indo-Pacific where it is usually found anchored to a hard surface in shallow water. Description A colony of ''Atriolum robustum'' consists of a number of hollow, urn-shaped zooids up to long, each with a large circular terminal hole, the atrial siphon, and connected by an encrusting base. The tunic (body wall) is firm to the touch and is perforated by a number of pore-like buccal siphons, each raised on a slight elevation, giving the zooid a Conifer cone, pine cone-like appearance. The tunic contains a red pigment but the colour of this is often masked by the presence of yellowish-green cyanobacteria (''Prochloron'' sp.) and may only be visible in the interior and at the rim of the atrial syphon. This sea squirt is sometimes confused with ''Didemnum molle'' but that species has a network of internal channels and exudes mucus, making it ...

Didemnidae
Didemnidae is the largest family of colonial tunicates in the order Aplousobranchia. These marine animals are found in shallow water on the seabed. Members of this family have reduced zooids that form highly integrated and encrusting sheet-like colonies. The body of each zooid is divided into a thorax and an abdomen. They are highly speciose with 578 named species representing a fifth of the species in the class Ascidiacea and members of this family can be found in marine waters across the globe. Didemnidae is the only genera within Chordata to form obligate photo symbiotic relationships which are made with cyanobacteria form the genus Prochloron. Systematics The World Register of Marine Species lists the following genera: * '' Atriolum'' Kott, 1983 * '' Clitella'' Kott, 2001 * '' Coelocormus'' Herdman, 1886 * '' Didemnum'' Savigny, 1816 * '' Diplosoma'' Macdonald, 1859 * '' Leptoclinides'' Bjerkan, 1905 * '' Polysyncraton'' Nott, 1892 * '' Trididemnum'' Della Valle, 1881 De ...

Aplousobranchia
Aplousobranchia is an order of sea squirts in the class Ascidiacea, first described by Fernando Lahille in 1886. They are colonial animals, and are distinguished from other sea squirts by the presence of relatively simple pharyngeal baskets. This provides the etymology of their name: in Ancient Greek, () means "simple". The posterior part of the abdomen contains the heart and gonads, and is typically larger than in other sea squirts. Patricia Kott
Patricia Mather (née Kott) (12 December 1925 – 4 January 2012) was an Australian zoologist and taxonomist known for her research into sea squirts. She became a leader in Australian marine science and achieved international status through her work on the Ascidiacea. She has published (under her maiden name, Patricia Kott) more than 150 papers including a major monograph on the "Australian Ascidiacea" (in four parts between 1985 and 2001). Early life Patricia Mather (born Patricia Kott) on 12 December 1925 in Perth was raised and educated in Western Australia. 1992 AMSA Silver Jubilee Awardee She received an early introduction into marine science during holiday jobs sorting plankton at the CSIR (later to become the CSIRO) Fisheries Division. After graduating from the University of Western Australia in 1948 with a B.Sc. first-class honours degree she was appointed plankton officer in the Fisheries Division at Cronulla, New South Wales. After completing her MSc in 1949 she wa ...
