Atriolum Robustum
''Atriolum robustum'' is a Colony (biology), colonial tunicate or sea squirt in the family ''Didemnidae''. It is native to the western and central Indo-Pacific where it is usually found anchored to a hard surface in shallow water. Description A colony of ''Atriolum robustum'' consists of a number of hollow, urn-shaped zooids up to long, each with a large circular terminal hole, the atrial siphon, and connected by an encrusting base. The tunic (body wall) is firm to the touch and is perforated by a number of pore-like buccal siphons, each raised on a slight elevation, giving the zooid a Conifer cone, pine cone-like appearance. The tunic contains a red pigment but the colour of this is often masked by the presence of yellowish-green cyanobacteria (''Prochloron'' sp.) and may only be visible in the interior and at the rim of the atrial syphon. This sea squirt is sometimes confused with ''Didemnum molle'' but that species has a network of internal channels and exudes mucus, making it ...

Taxa Described In 1983
In biology, a taxon (back-formation from ''taxonomy''; : taxa) is a group of one or more populations of an organism or organisms seen by taxonomists to form a unit. Although neither is required, a taxon is usually known by a particular name and given a particular ranking, especially if and when it is accepted or becomes established. It is very common, however, for taxonomists to remain at odds over what belongs to a taxon and the criteria used for inclusion, especially in the context of rank-based (" Linnaean") nomenclature (much less so under phylogenetic nomenclature). If a taxon is given a formal scientific name, its use is then governed by one of the nomenclature codes specifying which scientific name is correct for a particular grouping. Initial attempts at classifying and ordering organisms (plants and animals) were presumably set forth in prehistoric times by hunter-gatherers, as suggested by the fairly sophisticated folk taxonomies. Much later, Aristotle, and later still ...

Patricia Kott
Patricia Mather (née Kott) (12 December 1925 – 4 January 2012) was an Australian zoologist and taxonomist known for her research into sea squirts. She became a leader in Australian marine science and achieved international status through her work on the Ascidiacea. She has published (under her maiden name, Patricia Kott) more than 150 papers including a major monograph on the "Australian Ascidiacea" (in four parts between 1985 and 2001). Early life Patricia Mather (born Patricia Kott) on 12 December 1925 in Perth was raised and educated in Western Australia. 1992 AMSA Silver Jubilee Awardee She received an early introduction into marine science during holiday jobs sorting plankton at the CSIR (later to become the CSIRO) Fisheries Division. After graduating from the University of Western Australia in 1948 with a B.Sc. first-class honours degree she was appointed plankton officer in the Fisheries Division at Cronulla, New South Wales. After completing her MSc in 1949 she wa ...
