is a Japanese ''kami'' believed to be the local avatar (''Gongen'') of Buddhist bodhisattva Jizō. The cult originated in Shugendō practices on Mount Atago in Kyoto, and Atago Gongen is worshiped as a protector against fire. There are some nine hundred Atago Shrines around Japan. is a district of Minato, Tokyo, Japan. It consists of 1-chōme and 2-chōme. As of April 1, 2008, it has a total population of 323. Geography occupies most of the district. Atago Shrine (Tokyo)
The in Minato, Tokyo, Japan is a Shinto shrine established in 1603 (the eighth year of the Keichō era) on the order of ''shōgun'' Tokugawa Ieyasu. The current shrine buildings on the site date from 1958. The shrine is located on Atagoyama, a hill rising 26 meters above sea level. In old times, the shrine had a splendid view of Tokyo, now obscured by high rises. The very steep stairs leading to the shrine are also famous, as they represent success in life. According to legend, a young samurai dared to ride his horse up the stairs to deliver plum blossoms to the ''shōgun''. It took his horse only one minute to get up, but 45 minutes to get down, and the horse was utterly exhausted afterwards. This scene is depicted in a painting in the main shrine hall. Atago Green Hills
is an urban complex, located in Atago, Minato-ku in central Tokyo between the Kamiyacho and Onarimon subway stations. Constructed by building tycoon Minoru Mori, the complex incorporates offices, residences, shops, gardens, temples and museum. The development Atago Green Hills is a large-scale redevelopment project built on a site. It was planned with the development philosophy of preserving the culture, topography and greenery of the Mt Atago area while making use of this important inner city landscape resource. Mount Atago (Minamibōsō, Chiba)
is a mountain on the border of the cities of Minamibōsō and Kamogawa in Chiba Prefecture, Japan with an altitude of . It is the highest point in Chiba Prefecture. Mount Atago is at the west of the Mineoka Mountain District of the Bōsō Hill Range. The ''kanji'' for Mount Atago, 愛 and 宕, mean 'love' and 'cave' respectively. The mountain is also known as Mineoka Atago-yama as several other hills and mountains share the same name in Japan, most notably Mount Atago in the Tamba Mountains to the northwest of Kyōto.
