Aspern Airfield
Aspern () is a neighbourhood in Vienna, Austria, within Donaustadt, the 22nd district of Vienna. It has a population of 52,375 as of 2023 and covers an area of 19.89 km2. History The area is known for the Battle of Aspern-Essling, which was fought in the nearby Lobau on 21 and 22 May 1809 during the War of the Fifth Coalition. In the battle, the Austrian army, led by Archduke Charles, repelled an advance by Napoleon; it was the closest the French emperor had come to being defeated since his rise to power. In 1858, a large stone lion sculpture was installed in front of St. Martin's Church to commemorate the battle and the Austrian soldiers who died defending Austria against Napoleon. In 1904, the formerly independent village was incorporated into Vienna as part of the 21st district, Floridsdorf. It only became part of the newly created 22nd district, Donaustadt, in 1946. Hausfeldstraße Station
Hausfeldstraße is a metro station on the U2 line of the Vienna U-Bahn, located in Aspern, Donaustadt, Vienna's 22nd district. It opened on 5 October 2013 as part of the fourth expansion of the U2. About Situated north-east of the preceding Aspernstraße station, Hausfeldstraße was part of the fourth extension of the U2 in 2013, continuing on to Aspern Nord and ending at Seestadt. When built, the area it served was still largely uninhabited. Formerly a station of the Österreichische Bundesbahnen (ÖBB), it consisted of an electrified stub track, where the S80 had its terminus, and a platform on the through track towards Marchegg on the Slovak border. On October 1, 2018, the station was closed, and its functions as a train station were taken over by the Wien Aspern Nord station. Donauspital is a station on the U2 of the Vienna U-Bahn. It is located in Aspern, Donaustadt, the 22nd district of Vienna. The station was opened in 2010 as part of the third expansion of the U2 between Stadion and Aspernstraße. About The station lies opposite the main entrance to Klinik Donaustadt, the second-largest hospital in Vienna, which had previously been disconnected from the city’s metro network. The Vienna U-Bahn () is a rapid transit system serving Vienna, Austria. The five-line network consists of of route, serving 109 stations. 459.8 million passengers rode the U-Bahn in 2019. The modern-day U-Bahn opened on 25 February 1978, after test operations that began on 8 May 1976. The Donauinsel (Danube Island) is a long, narrow artificial island in central Vienna, Austria, lying between the Danube and the New Danube. The island is in length, but is only wide. It was constructed from 1972 to 1988 primarily as a measure for flood protection. It has since become the most popular recreational area in the city. Danube-Auen National Park
Donau-Auen National Park () covers 93 square kilometres in Vienna and Lower Austria and is one of the largest remaining floodplains of the Danube in Middle Europe. The German word ''Aue'' (variant ''Au'') means "river island, wetland, floodplain, riparian woodland", i.e. a cultivated landscape in a riparian zone. The words ''Aue'' and ''Au'' occur in a large number of German place names—including ''Donau'', the German word for the Danube River—and refer to forests, meadows, and wetlands in river and stream lowlands and floodplains.
