Ask Church
Ask Church ( no, Ask kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Askøy Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Ask, on the eastern coast of the island of Askøy. It is the church for the Ask parish which is part of the Vesthordland prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1908 using plans drawn up by the architect Hartvig Sverdrup Eckhoff. The church seats about 275 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1320, but it was not new that year. The first church at Ask was likely a wooden church that was possibly built during the 12th century. The exact church site is not known, but there is a stone cross memorial on a site where it possibly was located, about north of the present church site. List Of Churches In Bjørgvin
The list of churches in Bjørgvin is a list of the Church of Norway churches in the Diocese of Bjørgvin which includes all of Vestland county in Norway. The list is divided into several sections, one for each deanery (; headed by a provost) in the diocese. Administratively within each deanery, the churches are divided by municipalities each of which has their own church council () and then into parishes () which have their own councils (). Each parish may have one or more local church. Historically, the diocese has had many deaneries, but the number of deaneries has been reduced in recent years. The Laksevåg deanery (created in 1990) in Bergen was dissolved in 2013 and its churches were divided between the Bergen domprosti and the Fana prosti. Torgeir Alvsaker
Torgeir Alvsaker (1875—1971) was a Norwegian architect. Alvsaker was born 9 February 1875 on the Alvsaker farm in Kinsarvik, Norway. He attended the Bergen Technical School and graduated in 1898. He then became an assistant to architect Adolph Fischer in Bergen and then for the architect Holger Sinding-Larsen in Oslo. From 1905 until 1916 he also worked as an architect in the United States. In 1916, he returned to Bergen where he set up his own architecture company. From 1948 to 1969, Alvsaker worked in partnership with architect Einar Vaardal-Lunde, also based in Bergen. He died on 27 November 1971 in Bergen, Norway. In addition to designing houses in residential areas mostly in and around Bergen, he also designed several farm buildings, hospitals, old people's homes, schools, hotels, museums, and churches, working mainly in Western Norway. Johan Willoch Erichsen
Johan Willoch Erichsen (15 February 1842 – 22 August 1916) was a Norwegian bishop and theologian in the Church of Norway. He was Bishop of the Diocese of Bjørgvin from 1899 until shortly before his death in 1916. Life and family Erichsen was born on 15 February 1842 in the city of Kristiansand in Lister og Mandal county in southern Norway. His father was Hans Erichsen, a church worker at the Kristiansand Cathedral, and his mother was Mathilde Sophie Willoch. He went to school and graduated in Kristiansand at the Cathedral School. He received his cand.theol. degree from the Royal Frederick University in 1864. He married Kristiane Sofie Rogstad Boeck in 1869. She died young in 1873, and in 1877 he married Kristiane's younger sister, Helga Marie Margrete Boeck. Strusshamn Church ( no, Strusshamn kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Askøy Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Strusshamn. It is the church for the Strusshamn parish which is part of the Vesthordland prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The large concrete and glass church was built in a fan-shaped design in 1969 using plans drawn up by the architects Torgeir Alvsaker and Einar Vaardal-Lunde. The church seats about 500 people. Strusshamn
Strusshamn is an urban village in the municipality of Askøy in Vestland county, Norway. The village lies along the Byfjorden on the southern coast of the island of Askøy, just west of the large urban village of Kleppestø. Strusshamn is one of the cultural centers of the municipality, and it is the site of the main church for the municipality, Strusshamn Church. Byfjorden (Hordaland)
Byfjorden (Norwegian Nynorsk and Bokmål: /byːfjɔrn/, /-ɔɾn/; Bokmål: also /-ɔɳ/; Bergensk: usually /-ɔʁn/) is a fjord in Vestland county, Norway. The long fjord separates the island of Askøy from the mainland Bergen Peninsula, passing right north of the city of Bergen on the mainland.
