Torgeir Alvsaker
Torgeir Alvsaker (1875—1971) was a Norwegian architect. Alvsaker was born 9 February 1875 on the Alvsaker farm in Kinsarvik, Norway. He attended the Bergen Technical School and graduated in 1898. He then became an assistant to architect Adolph Fischer in Bergen and then for the architect Holger Sinding-Larsen in Oslo. From 1905 until 1916 he also worked as an architect in the United States. In 1916, he returned to Bergen where he set up his own architecture company. From 1948 to 1969, Alvsaker worked in partnership with architect Einar Vaardal-Lunde, also based in Bergen. He died on 27 November 1971 in Bergen, Norway. In addition to designing houses in residential areas mostly in and around Bergen, he also designed several farm buildings, hospitals, old people's homes, schools, hotels, museums, and churches, working mainly in Western Norway. Kinsarvik (municipality)
Kinsarvik is a former municipality in the old Hordaland county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Kinsarvik where Kinsarvik Church is located. The municipality of Kinsarvik existed two different times: from 1838 until 1869 and then again from 1913 until 1964. The municipality centered on the inner part of the Hardangerfjorden, and (originally) surrounded all of the Sørfjorden. The original Kinsarvik encompassed all of the present day municipalities of Ullensvang (except for Røldal) and a small part of Voss. Upon its final dissolution in 1964, it covered an area of . Værlandet Chapel
Værlandet Chapel ( no, Værlandet bedehuskapell) is a chapel of the Church of Norway in Askvoll Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located on the island of Værlandet. It is one of three annex chapels in the Askvoll parish which is part of the Sunnfjord prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, brick chapel was built in a long church style in 1960 using plans drawn up by the architect Torgeir Alvsaker. The chapel seats about 170 people. History Planning for a chapel in Værlandet began in the mid-1930s when some fundraising was carried out and a new cemetery was built. The planning was put on hold for quite some time soon after that when World War II broke out. After the war, work began on the new chapel in 1960. The chapel was consecrated on 30 October 1960 by the Bishop Ragnvald Indrebø. In addition to the main sanctuary, there are bathrooms and a cloakroom on the main floor. Vikebygd Church ( no, Vikebygd kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Vindafjord Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Vikebygd. It is the church for the Vikebygd parish which is part of the Haugaland prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. The white, stone church was built in a long church style in 1937 using designs by the architect Torgeir Alvsaker. History The first church at Vikebygd was built in the middle ages and it was first mentioned in historical records in 1315. That church was most likely a stave church. The original church was torn down in 1682 and replaced with a timber-framed church on the same site. Reksteren Church ( no, Reksteren kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Tysnes Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the small village of Bruntveit on the island of Reksteren.
