Asin (band)
Asin (sometimes stylized as ASIN) are a Pinoy folk rock band from the Philippines. They started as a trio in the late 1970s before becoming a quartet, and was originally known as the Salt of the Earth. "Asin" means salt in the Filipino language. History Formation and early success ASIN was formed in late 1976, the nucleus of which was the duo of Mike Pillora Jr. of Negros Occidental and Cesar Bañares Jr. of South Cotabato, who were playing at folk joints and pub houses in Manila as 'Mike and Cesar'. A year later, Lolita Carbon was recruited by the duo to fill in the missing middle voice and eventually became the third member. Pillora named the trio 'Salt of the Earth', after the song recorded originally by The Rolling Stones, later by Joan Baez, written and composed by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Other than that song's title, Pillora also meant the name of the group to allude to the Biblical metaphor "salt of the earth", which represents the humble and sincere masses. I ... New Bilibid Prison
The New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa, Metro Manila, is the main insular prison designed to house the prison population of the Philippines. It is maintained by the Bureau of Corrections (Philippines), Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) under the Department of Justice (Philippines), Department of Justice (DOJ). As of October 2022, the NBP housed 29,204 inmates, nearly five times its intended capacity of 6,345. Since July 2023, the DOJ has suspended admitting new inmates to the prison to address overcrowding and prison gang wars. As such, BuCor Chief Gregorio Catapang Jr. has expressed plans to close down the prison by 2028 and convert it into a commercial hub, with an estimated 7,500 minimum- and medium-security inmates scheduled to be transferred to regional prisons in their respective hometowns and high-risk offenders to a supermax prison soon to open in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro. Koronadal, officially the City of Koronadal (; ; ; Maguindanao language, Maguindanaon: ''Kuta nu Kurunadal'', ) and also known as Marbel, is a Cities of the Philippines#Legal classification, component city and capital of the Provinces of the Philippines, province of South Cotabato, Philippines. Folk Arts Theater
The Tanghalang Francisco Balagtas (), formerly known as the Folk Arts Theater, was a theater located in the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex in Malate, Manila. It is a covered proscenium amphitheater owned by the Cultural Center of the Philippines that was a popular venue for concerts during the 1980s and 1990s. The theater, named after Filipino poet Francisco Balagtas, has a seating capacity of 8,458 in 10 sections and features a broad fascia with a single column-to-column span of . It is the largest single-span structure in the country, with a roof resting on eight monumental columns. The People Power Revolution, also known as the EDSA Revolution or the February Revolution, were a series of popular Demonstration (people), demonstrations in the Philippines, mostly in Metro Manila, from February 22 to 25, 1986. There was a sustained campaign of civil resistance against regime violence and electoral fraud. Cebu Coliseum
The Cebu Coliseum is an indoor arena in Cebu City, Philippines. Its seating capacity is around 5,000. The coliseum hosts various sports events and concerts in Cebu and is the primary venue for Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc., CESAFI games. It was also the home of the Cebu Gems of the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association, MBA. On August 4, 1962, one of the first events it hosted was a fight between hometown hero Gabriel Elorde, Gabriel "Flash" Elorde and Japanese boxer Terou Kosaka.
