Ashley Kozak
Ashley Kozak (c.1930 – 2008) was a British jazz bassist, record producer and artists' manager, best known as having been Donovan's manager alongside Grahame Corbyn. Career 1950s After working and recording with Tony Crombie and his orchestra in 1954, together with leading UK-based jazz musicians such as Crombie, Dizzy Reece, Joe Temperley and Harry South, Kozak went on to join the Vic Ash Quartet, which recorded with Maxine Sullivan. He later joined the Don Rendell Sextet (1954–55) and The Ivor and Basil Kirchin Band (1955–56), together with Stan Tracey, and was later with the Basil Kirchin Small Band. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its roots are in blues, ragtime, European harmony, African rhythmic rituals, spirituals, hymns, marches, vaudeville song, and dance music. Dick Morrissey
Richard Edwin Morrissey (9 May 1940 – 8 November 2000) was a British jazz musician and composer. He played the tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone and flute. Biography Background He was born in Horley, Surrey, England. Dick Morrissey emerged in the early 1960s in the wake of Tubby Hayes, Britain’s pre-eminent sax player at the time. Self-taught, he started playing clarinet in his school band, The Delta City Jazzmen, at the age of sixteen with fellow pupils Robin Mayhew (trumpet), Eric Archer (trombone), Steve Pennells (banjo), Glyn Greenfield (drums), and young brother Chris on tea-chest bass. He then joined the Original Climax Jazz Band. Joe White (musician)
Joe White was a UK-based Jamaican singer and musician who had several hits when he was in his home country. He was part of the duos Joe White and Chuck, Joe & Della, Joe White & Irene, the trio Joe White, Glen & Trevor, and other ensembles. Background Joe White was born William Joseph White in Kingston, Jamaica, on 4 September 1941. He was raised in a single-parent household by his mother Veronica Topey. He attended the Alpha Boys' School at South Camp Road in Kingston. He acquired a trade in tailoring. In addition to being a vocalist, Joe White played the piano and melodica. PYE or Pye Records is an independent British record label. It was first established in 1955 and played a major role in shaping rock 'n' roll and pop music history. The Pye name was dropped in 1980 due to trademark issues, after which it produced almost no music until the company name and trademark was acquired by the Scottish broadcaster and music producer Tony Currie (broadcaster), Tony Currie in September 2024. ''Record World'' magazine was one of three major weekly music industry trade magazines in the United States, with ''Billboard'' and '' Cashbox''. It was founded in 1946 as ''Music Vendor''. In 1964, it was changed to ''Record World'' under the ownership of Sid Parnes and Bob Austin. It ceased publication on April 10, 1982. Mike Collier was a British A&R man, record producer, composer and record label founder. He founded the Collier, Feelgood, Flamingo and Sugar labels. The artists he worked with included The Isley Brothers and The Echoes. Background Born in the UK, Collier moved to the United States around 1956.
