Gangachara Upazila
Gangachara () is the northernmost upazila of Bangladesh's Rangpur District, located in the Rangpur Division. Etymology There are several legends relating to the etymology of Gangachara. It is said that this area was all a large river (''gang'' in the Bengali language) in the past from north to south along the west side of this area. Later, a river island (''chor'') formed within the river, which led to the term ''Gangchor'' gaining currency, which was later corrupted to ''Gangachara''. It is said that this former river was known by locals as ''kaligonga'' or ''puran gonga''. According to legend, a trader named Chand Saudagar used to bring a fleet of 14 dinghies to trade in this area. But the river could not accommodate such a large fleet of dinghies. Rangpur District () is a district in northern Bengal, It is a part of Rangpur Division, Bangladesh. Geography Under the Rangpur Division (one of eight divisions) composed of eight districts of northern Bangladesh, the District of Rangpur is bordered on the north by Nilphamari District, on the south by Gaibandha District, on the east by Kurigram, and on the west by Dinajpur district. 2024 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 7 January 2024 in accordance with the Constitution of Bangladesh, constitutional requirement, stating that elections must take place within the 90-day period before the expiration of the current term of the Jatiya Sangsad on 29 January 2024. The Awami League, led by incumbent Sheikh Hasina, won the election for the fourth consecutive time with less than 40% of the eligible voters voting according to an Election Commission, which was run by the ruling political party.
