Arthur A. Telcser
Arthur A. Telcser (January 17, 1932 – November 26, 1999) was an American pharmacist and politician. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Telcser received his degree in pharmacy from UIC College of Pharmacy and then owned Wilart Drugs, a pharmacy business, in Chicago. He joined the Republican Party (United States), Republican Party in 1954 and was active with the Young Republicans. In 1966, Telcser was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives as one of three representatives from the 11th Legislative District. He quickly rose to legislative leadership becoming House Majority Whip in 1969. He would go on to be appointed to other leadership positions; Assistant Majority Leader in 1973; Assistant Minority Leader in 1975; Minority Whip in 1977; Assistant Minority Leader in 1979 and Majority Leader in 1981. Ira Colitz (September 27, 1916 – January 24, 1998) was an American politician and businessman. Colitz was born in Chicago, Illinois and went to the Chicago public schools. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Colitz was in the insurance business and was involved with the Democratic Party. Michael Madigan
Michael Joseph Madigan (born April 19, 1942) is an American politician and convicted felon who is the former speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives. A member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party, he was the longest-serving leader of any state or federal legislative body in the history of the United States, having held the position for all but two years from 1983 to 2021. William Benjamin "Ben" Polk (January 24, 1930 – October 1, 2014) was an American politician. Ben Polk was born in Hamburg, Iowa. Polk went to the Percival High School in Percival, Iowa He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1948 to 1956. He went to the University of Illinois and the University of Nebraska. Polk lived in Moline, Illinois. He worked for the American Red Cross and served on the staff of Congressman Tom Railsback. Brian Barnett Duff (September 15, 1930 – February 25, 2016) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Whip (politics)
A whip is an official of a political party whose task is to ensure party discipline (that members of the party vote according to the party platform rather than their constituents, conscience vote, individual conscience or donors) in a legislature. Whips are the party's "enforcers". They work to ensure that their fellow political party legislators attend voting sessions and vote according to their party's official policy. Members who vote against party policy may "lose the whip", being expelled from the party. The term is said to be taken from the "wikt:whipper-in, whipper-in" during a hunt, who tries to prevent hounds from wandering away from a hunting pack. The term may more reasonably have been taken from the practice of "keeping discipline" in slaves by cracking a leather whip over their heads. John Cullerton
John J. Cullerton (born October 28, 1948) is an American politician who served as a Democratic member of the Illinois Senate, representing the 6th district from his appointment in 1991 to 2020. He served as President of the Illinois Senate from 2009 to 2020. On November 14, 2019 Cullerton announced to the other members of the Senate Democratic Caucus that he intended to retire in January 2020.
