Aromatised wine (spelled aromatized in American English) is a wine flavoured with aromatic herbs and spices. These are classified by their alcohol content and the flavourings and other ingredients used. The European Union defines three categories: 'aromatised wine', 'aromatised wine-based drink' and 'aromatised wine-product cocktail'. Drinks which have an alcohol content of 1.2% abv or less, cannot be labelled as containing wine. Lillet
Lillet () is a French wine–based aperitif from Podensac. Classed as an aromatised wine within EU law, it is a blend of 85% Bordeaux wine, Bordeaux region wines (Semillon for the blanc and for the rosé, Merlot for the rouge) and 15% Maceration (wine), macerated liqueurs, mostly citrus liqueurs (peels of sweet oranges from Spain and Morocco and peels of bitter green oranges from Haiti). The mix is then stirred in oak vats until blended. Galium Odoratum
''Galium odoratum'', the sweet woodruff or sweetscented bedstraw, is a flowering perennial plant in the family Rubiaceae, native to much of Europe. It is widely cultivated for its flowers and its sweet-smelling foliage. Description A herbaceous plant, it grows to long, often lying flat on the ground or supported by other plants. The leaves are simple, lanceolate, glabrous, long, and borne in whorls of six to nine. The small (4–7 mm diameter) flowers are produced in cymes, each white with four petals joined together at the base. The fruits are 2–4 mm in diameter, produced singly, and each is covered in tiny, hooked bristles, which help disperse them by sticking temporarily to clothing and animal fur. May Wine
May wine, also known as Maitrank, Maiwein, Maibowle and Waldmeisterbowle, is an aromatized wine popular in Germany, sometimes made into a punch. May wine is served in the spring, traditionally on the May Day holiday. The base is made by steeping the fragrant creeping herb sweet woodruff (''Galium odoratum'', sometimes called ''Asperula odorata'', known in Germany as ''Waldmeister'') that grows in the forests of Northern Europe in a white German wine. Glögg
Glögg, gløgg or glögi is a spiced, often Alcoholic drink, alcoholic, mulled wine, or alcoholic spirit, spirit of Swedish origin. It is a traditional Swedish drink during winter, especially around Christmas. History In the Nordic countries, hot wine has been a common drink since at least the 16th century. Cold Duck is a sparkling wine made in the United States. Origin The recipe was based on a German legend involving Prince Clemens Wenceslaus of Saxony ordering the mixing of champagne with unfinished bottles of wine. The drink, as it evolved in Germany, became standardized as one part wine from the Mosel region, one part wine from the Rheinhessen region, and one part champagne, seasoned with lemons and balm mint. Sangria ( , ; ) is an alcoholic beverage originating in Spain and Portugal. A punch, sangria traditionally consists of red wine and chopped fruit, often with other ingredients or spirits. Byrrh
Byrrh is an aromatised wine apéritif made of red wine, mistelle, and quinine. Created in France in 1866 and trademarked in 1873, it was popular as an apéritif in the early 20th century.
