Aris Petroupolis F.C.
Aris Petroupolis FC is a Greek football club based in Petroupoli, Athens. Its colors are red and yellow. It is one of the oldest football clubs of the Athens Football Association, with registration number 9, having been a member since 1926. The club was created in its current form in 1966, when Aris Athens moved to Petroupoli, which had originated in 1946 from the merger of the old clubs Olympiacos Athens(founded in 1926) and Atlas Thymaraki (founded in 1928). Aris Petroupolis football team, have competed for 13 seasons in the 4th National League. Aris competes currently in Gamma Ethinki, the third highest tier in Greek Football League system. The Gamma Ethniki (, C National Division) is the Greek football league system, third highest football league in Greece. History The Gamma Ethniki began in 1965 as an amateur championship, while in 1983 it was changed to professional. Although not literally national (it is divided into ''North'' and ''South'' groups), Football League 2 is considered as a national division. On 3 August 2010, it was announced that the division had been renamed ''Football League 2''. The drachma ( ) was the official currency of modern Greece from 1832 until the launch of the euro in 2001. First modern drachma The drachma was reintroduced in May 1832, shortly before the establishment of the Kingdom of Greece. It replaced the ''phoenix (currency), phoenix'' at par. Panthrakikos Football Club () is a Greek football club based in Komotini, Thrace in North Eastern Greece founded in 1963. The club competed in Super League Greece during the 2008–09 season for the first time. History Early years (1963–2001) Panthrakikos F.C. was formed in the town of Komotini in 1963. Athlitiki Enosis Komotini (Athletic Union of Komotini) which was founded in 1936, and Orpheus Komotini which was founded in 1948 were merged with Panthrakikos in 1963 and 1964 respectively. The Greece national football team (, ) represents Greece in men's international Association football, football matches, and is controlled by the Hellenic Football Federation, the governing body for football in Greece. Greece is one of only ten national teams to have been crowned List of UEFA European Championship finals, UEFA European Champions.
