Argyroupoli
Argyroupoli () is a town and a suburb in the southern part of the Athens agglomeration, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the Elliniko-Argyroupoli municipality, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. A bustling suburb today, it's known for its cafés, restaurants and bars. Name The city's name derives from the Greek words ''άργυρος'' (''árgyros'' meaning ''silver'') and ''πόλη'' (''poli'' meaning ''city''). The name's older form was ''Argyroupolis''. The first name of the settlement was ''New Argyroupolis'', given by the refugees from Gümüşhane, Turkey. History As a part of the population exchange between Greece and Turkey after the Greco-Turkish war of 1919-1922, a number of refugees fled to Attica from the former Ottoman Empire. Elliniko (, meaning 'Hellenic' or 'Greek') is a coastal municipality in the Attica region and a southern suburban town in the Athens agglomeration in Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform, it has been part of the municipality of Elliniko-Argyroupoli, of which it is a municipal unit. Alimos () is a town on the Saronic Gulf coast, a suburb of the Athens agglomeration, and a municipality in South Athens regional unit, Greece. Vouliagmenis Avenue () is one of the longest avenues in the Greater Athens area, stretching from central Athens to the seaside resort of Vouliagmeni. The total length is 21 km. The avenue begins at Athanasios Diakos Street and Michalakopoulou Street and the southbound portion of the avenue runs with three lanes to the southern portion of municipality of Athens and eastern Dafni. Seven Athens Metro subway stations lie underneath or next to the avenue: Agios Ioannis, Dafni, Agios Dimitrios, Ilioupoli station, Alimos station, Argyroupoli station and Elliniko station, all part of the southern section of the Red Line. Its name is the modern form of the ancient name of Heliopolis in Egypt. Development of Ilioupoli started around 1924, when Greek refugees from Asia Minor settled there. Glyfada
Glyfada (, ) is a town and a suburb in the South Athens regional unit located in the Athens Riviera along the coast of Saronic Gulf. It is situated in the southern parts of the Athens#Athens Urban Area, Athens urban area. The area stretches from the foot of the Hymettus mountain to the Saronic Gulf. History In ancient times, the area was a deme known as Aixone (). Today, Glyfada is packed with some of the capital's best-known nightclubs, upscale restaurants and shops. It could be argued to be one of the most "Americanization, Americanized" of Athenian municipalities, since an American airbase was located nearby until the early 1990s. Hymettus (), also Hymettos (; ; ), is a mountain range in the Athens area of Attica, East Central Greece. It is also colloquially known as ''Trellós'' (crazy) or ''Trellóvouno'' (crazy mountain); the latter originates from the French "très long" (very long) in awe of its winding length of 16 km, as used by French travelers during the occupation of Greece by the Ottomans.
