Areni Municipality, referred to as Areni Community ( ''Areni Hamaynk''), is a rural community and administrative subdivision of Vayots Dzor Province of Armenia Armenia, officially the Republic of Armenia, is a landlocked country in the Armenian Highlands of West Asia. A municipality in Armenia referred to as community ( ''hamaynk'', plural: ''hamaynkner''), is an administrative subdivision consisting of a settlement ( ''bnakavayr'') or a group of settlements ( ''bnakavayrer'') that enjoys local self-government. The settlements are classified as either towns ( ''kaghakner'', singular ''kaghak'') or villages ( ''gyugher'', singular ( ''gyugh''). The administrative centre of a community could either be an urban settlement (town) or a rural settlement (village). Two-thirds of the population are now urbanized. Arpi () is a village in the Areni Municipality of the Vayots Dzor Province in Armenia. It is situated 8 km southwest of the Province center, on the right bank of the Arpa River. The Yerevan-Meghri interstate highway passes through the village. Etymology The village is also known as ''Arpa''. History The village's establishment dates back to 1965 when it was formed based on the relocated population from Gnishik village in the Yeghegnadzor region. Geography Arpi community borders Aghavnadzor in the northwest, Getap in the northeast, Yeghegnadzor in the east, Areni and Gnishik communities in the south. The village stands at an average elevation of 1100 m above sea level and is crossed by the Arpa River, which is abundant in yellowfish and barbel species, while its source is home to trout. The Hanrapetutyun Party () is a pro-European political party in Armenia. The party was founded by ex-members from the Republican Party of Armenia and members of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union: Aram Sargsyan, Albert Bazeyan, Vagharshak Harutiunyan, Ara Ketikyan, among others, in April 2001. Yelpin
Yelpin (; ) is a village in the Areni Municipality of the Vayots Dzor Province in southwestern Armenia, located on the Armenia–Azerbaijan border. History Yelpin community was established in 1828, after the Russo-Persian War (1826-1828). The founders (ethnic Armenians) fled from the Persian regions of Khoy and Salmas. The community was founded in the place of the village of ''Nrbuyn'', and inherited its name, which gradually transformed to ''Nrbuyn'', ''Nrbin'', ''Irpin'' and finally to ''Yelpin''. 13th-century Armenian historian Stephen Orbelian, in his book ''Patmutyun Sisakan'' (History of Sis) mentions ''Adopen, Khndzorut, Kechut, Chochanak, Chavadzor, Mokhrot'' and other historical places to be located in the administrative territory of Yelpin.
