Area Democratica
AreaDem (an abbreviation for ''Area Democratica'', ) is a broad faction within the Democratic Party (PD), a political party in Italy. The faction coordinator is Marina Sereni, a former member of the Democrats of the Left close to Piero Fassino. On the issues, AD distances itself from social democracy, opposes any "compromise over legality" and justice with Silvio Berlusconi, and supports voters' participation to the life of the party through primaries. History The grouping was launched soon after the defeat of Franceschini, party leader since the resignation of Walter Veltroni, by Pier Luigi Bersani in the 2009 PD leadership election and at its foundation comprised almost 150 MPs and MEPs of the party. Dario Franceschini
Dario Franceschini (; born 19 October 1958) is an Italian lawyer, writer, and politician, member of the Democratic Party (PD), of which he briefly became leader in 2009. Franceschini served as Minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, a position that he held from February 2014 to June 2018 and again from September 2019 to October 2022, making him the longest-serving cultural heritage minister in the history of the Italian Republic. Franceschini also served as Minister for Parliamentary Relations from 2013 to 2014. Veltroniani
Veltroniani referred to the followers of Walter Veltroni, leader of the Democratic Party, a political party in Italy, from 2007 to 2009. Most of them are social democrats coming from the Democrats of the Left. Apart the core group of ''Veltroniani'', there are some distinct factions within the Democratic Party whose members are usually considered ''veltroniani'': * Liberal PD * Democratic Ecologists *Social Christians During Veltroni's leadership, leading members of the area were Goffredo Bettini, Giorgio Tonini and Enrico Morando. Rutelliani
''Rutelliani'' referred to the followers of Francesco Rutelli, a former leading member of the Democratic Party, and later leader of Alliance for Italy. The followers of Rutelli were mainly centrists who wanted the party to be modelled on the Democratic Party of the United States and to join the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe and the Alliance of Democrats. They included both liberals and Christian-democrats. Franco Marini
Franco Marini (9 April 1933 β 9 February 2021) was an Italian politician and a prominent member of the centre-left Democratic Party. From 2006 to 2008, he was the president of the Senate. Biography Trade unionist Marini was born in San Pio delle Camere, in the Province of L'Aquila (Abruzzo). The Democratic Ecologists (, EcoDem or ED) are a green faction within the Italian Democratic Party (PD). Launched by Ermete Realacci and Fabrizio Vigni, the faction is composed by both former members of Democracy is Freedom β The Daisy (Realacci, Roberto Della Seta, Francesco Ferrante, etc.) and the Democrats of the Left (Vigni, Sergio Gentili, Gianni Mattioli, Edo Ronchi, Massimo Scalia, etc.). Fourth Phase
Fourth Phase (''Quarta Fase'', QF) is a faction within the Democratic Party (PD), a political party in Italy. The name of the faction was chosen to identify the new stage of left-wing Catholics in Italian politics, the first three being within the Italian People's Party (1919β1926), the Christian Democracy (1943β1994) and the Italian People's Party respectively, and the fourth the current one, with the Democratic Party, a party in which Catholics are a minority.
