Front-wheel-drive Vehicles
Front-wheel drive (FWD) is a form of engine and transmission layout used in motor vehicles, in which the engine drives the front wheels only. Most modern front-wheel-drive vehicles feature a transverse engine, rather than the conventional longitudinal engine arrangement generally found in rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive vehicles. Location of engine and transmission By far the most common layout for a front-wheel-drive car is with the engine and transmission at the front of the car, mounted transversely. Other layouts of front-wheel drive that have been occasionally produced are a front-engine mounted longitudinally, a mid-engine layout and a rear-engine layout. History Prior to 1900 Experiments with front-wheel-drive cars date to the early days of the automobile. The world's first self-propelled vehicle, Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot's 1769/1770 "fardier à vapeur", was a front-wheel-driven three-wheeled steam-tractor. It then took at least a century for the f ...

The term has also been adopted by Euro NCAP, a European organization founded to test car safety. Background The term was coined in the 1960s to describe cars targeted at successful professionals and middle-to-senior managers. It was used by businesses as an incentive for employees in senior roles and to exploit Britain and Europe's tax schemes as a company-owned vehicle. Early executive cars typically offered engines with displacements of , compared with for an equivalent sized—but less luxurious—"large family car". Prior to the 1990s, executive cars were typically sedan (car), sedans; however, in recent yea ...

Cars Introduced In 2020
A car, or an automobile, is a motor vehicle with wheels. Most definitions of cars state that they run primarily on roads, seat one to eight people, have four wheels, and mainly transport people rather than cargo. There are around one billion cars in use worldwide. The French inventor Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot built the first steam-powered road vehicle in 1769, while the Swiss inventor François Isaac de Rivaz designed and constructed the first internal combustion-powered automobile in 1808. The modern car—a practical, marketable automobile for everyday use—was invented in 1886, when the German inventor Carl Benz patented his Benz Patent-Motorwagen. Commercial cars became widely available during the 20th century. The 1901 Oldsmobile Curved Dash and the 1908 Ford Model T, both American cars, are widely considered the first mass-produced and mass-affordable cars, respectively. Cars were rapidly adopted in the US, where they replaced carriage, horse-drawn carriages. In Europe an ...

Plug-in Electric Vehicle Fire Incidents
Numerous plug-in electric vehicle (EV) fire incidents have taken place since the introduction of mass-production plug-in electric vehicles. In some cases, an EV's battery (at least arguably) caused a fire. In other cases, an EV's battery did not cause a fire, but it added "fuel" to a fire. Technically: it is the "thermal propagation" properties of the battery pack which may, or may not, prevent it from getting involved in an automotive fire – even if one or more of the cells in the battery pack has overheated dangerously, the upholstery has already caught on fire, or the car's wiring harness is severely damaged. According to one research group: The causes of fires in EVs can be mainly divided into the following categories: spontaneous combustion during driving, fire during charging, fire during vehicle parking, fire after collision (traffic accident and chassis collision), water immersion of battery packs, external fire ignition, human factors, aging and short-circuit of com ...
