Aran John Hansen (born 18 December 1960) is a sailor from Papakura, New Zealand, who represented his country at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, United States as crew member in the Soling. With helmsman Tom Dodson and fellow crew member Simon Daubney they took the 11th place. Aran took also part in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Busan, South Korea. Papakura is a southern suburb of Auckland, in northern New Zealand. It is located on the shores of the Pahurehure Inlet, approximately 32 kilometres south of the Auckland CBD. Soling
The Soling is an open keelboat that holds the World Sailing " International class" status. The class was used from the 1972 Olympics (Kiel) until the 2000 Olympics (Sydney) as " Open Three Person Keelboat". Besides the Olympic career of the Soling the boat is used for International and local regattas as well as for recreational sailing. The Soling is managed by the International Soling Association under auspician of World Sailing/ISAF/IYRU since 1968. The Soling is a strong boat designed for any wind and sea condition by Jan Herman Linge from Norway in 1964. The boats are one-design originating from an authorized single plug and mould system and made of fiberglass. This together with a strict set of class rules makes competition possible on a " level playing field". Simon Daubney
Simon Leslie Daubney (born 17 July 1959) is a New Zealand sailor who has sailed in the Olympics and is a member of the America's Cup Hall of Fame. Early life Daubney was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 1959. Olympic career Daubney sailed for New Zealand at the 1984, 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympics. In 1984 he sailed in a Soling alongside Tom Dodson and Aran Hansen and they placed 11th. At the 1988 Olympics the same crew placed 7th. He competed with Russell Coutts and Graham Fleury in the 1992 Olympics, placing 8th. He is New Zealand Olympian number 425.
