Soling
The Soling is an Keelboat, open keelboat that holds the World Sailing "International class" status. The class was used from the Sailing at the 1972 Summer Olympics, 1972 Olympics until the Sailing at the 2000 Summer Olympics, 2000 Olympics as "Sailing at the Summer Olympics#Olympic classes (equipment), Open three-person keelboat". Besides the Olympic career of the Soling the boat is used for international and local regattas as well as for Sailing#Recreational sailing, recreational sailing. The Soling is managed by the International Soling Association under auspician of World Sailing since 1968. International Soling Association
The International Soling Association (ISA) is the sports governing body, governing body for the Soling class, recognised as an international class by World Sailing. The International Soling Association was founded as soon as the Soling became an international class in 1967. Originally an owners' club, it became a very self-supporting organization who provided great support for the whole Soling community and guarded the Soling one-design during her Olympic tour of duty as well as in the present time. Object The object of the ISA is to promote the Soling class throughout the world, to co‐ordinate competition under uniform rules, and to maintain the integrity of the one‐design nature of the class in co‐operation with World Sailing and the national soling associations (NSAs). Sailing (sport), Sailing/Yachting is an Olympic sport starting from the Games of the 1st Olympiad (Sailing at the 1896 Summer Olympics, 1896 Olympics in Athens, Greece). With the exception of 1904 Summer Olympics, 1904 and the canceled 1916 Summer Olympics, sailing has always been included on the Olympic schedule. The Sailing program of 1972 consisted of a total of six sailing classes (disciplines). For each class seven races were scheduled from 29 August 1972 to 8 September 1972 of the coast of Kiel-Schilksee in the Bay of Kiel. Sailing At The 2000 Summer Olympics
Sailing at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney was held from 17 to 30 September 2000 at the Olympic Sailing Shore Base in the Sydney Harbour. The quota for sailing at the 2000 Summer Olympics was 400, of which 124 positions were for men, 92 for women and 184 'open' to men or women. The Sailing Program of 2000 consisted of a total of eleven sailing classes (disciplines). For each class with the exception of the Soling and the 49er, eleven races were scheduled from 17 to 30 September 2000. For the Soling six fleet races were scheduled followed by a series of match races for the top twelve boats of the fleet race result. The 49er had sixteen scheduled fleet races. Jan Herman Linge
Jan Herman Linge (28 January 1922 in Trondheim, Norway – 25 June 2007 in Asker, Norway) was a Norwegian engineer and boat designer. Early life and career Linge was born in Trondheim, Norway. He was the son of Martin Linge who was known for his war effort in Kompani Linge. He was a member of the merchant navy for two years before undertaking a naval architecture course while financing his studies by working in a shipyard. During World War II, he joined the Norwegian resistance movement and was trained as a saboteur in the United Kingdom. He was captured on a mission and spent some time in a German prison camp. Linge completed his studies in 1949. Design work Linge was an engineer from 1949 to 1956 in Westermoen Båtbyggeri og Mek Verksted, and was responsible for the design of the Tjeld class patrol boat. One-Design
One-design racing is a racing method which may be adopted in sports using complex equipment, whereby all vehicles have identical or very similar designs or models, avoiding the need for a Handicapping, handicap system. Motorsport One-make racing series (also known as spec racing series) are racing series in which all competitors race with identical or very similar vehicles from the same manufacturer and suppliers. Typically, this means the same type of chassis, powertrain, tyres, brakes, and fuel are used by all drivers.
