Anyer
Anyer, also known as Anjer or Angier, is a coastal town in Banten, formerly West Java, Indonesia, west of Jakarta and south of Merak. A significant coastal town late 18th century, Anyer faces the Sunda Strait. History The town was a considerable port in the 19th century but was destroyed by a 100-foot-high tsunami which was caused by the 1883 eruption of Krakatoa. The present settlement still houses the Cikoneng Lighthouse built by the Dutch government two years later as a memorial for the townspeople killed by the eruption. It was also the starting point of the Great Post Road, built by the Dutch in the nineteenth century, which ran around to the eastern tip of Java. Off the coast of Anyer is the island Pulau Sangiang, an uninhabited island with vast areas of untouched jungle. The area is also known for coral formations swarming with tropical fish. Great Post Road
The Great Post Road (, ) is the name for the historical road that runs across Java and connects Anyer with Panarukan. It was built during the administration of Herman Willem Daendels (1808–1811), Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies, governor-general of the Dutch East Indies, using unpaid forced labour that cost thousands of lives. Construction ''La Grande Route'', as Daendels called it, was a military road built by the order of King Louis Bonaparte, who ruled the Kingdom of Holland during the Napoleonic Wars. France was at war with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and the road was intended to support the defence of Java by, e.g. making it easier to transfer soldiers and supplies. Sunda Strait Bridge
The Sunda Strait Bridge (, ''JSS'', ''Jembatan Selsun'', sometimes referred to in English-language reports as the ''SSB'') was a planned road and railway megaproject between the two large Indonesian islands of Sumatra and Java. The suggestion for a bridge was reportedly first put forward in 1960 by Professor Sedyatmo from Institut Teknologi Bandung as a part of broader plans, known as ''Tri Nusa Bimasakti'', to link the three islands of Sumatra, Java and Bali (the latter via the Bali Strait Bridge). In October 2007, after years of discussion and planning, the Indonesian government gave the initial go-ahead for a project which includes several of the world's longest suspension bridges, across the Sunda Strait. Krakatoa
Krakatoa (), also transcribed (), is a caldera in the Sunda Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra in the Indonesian province of Lampung. The caldera is part of a volcanic island group (Krakatoa archipelago) comprising four islands. Two of them are known as Lang Island, Lang and Verlaten Island, Verlaten; another, Rakata, is the only remnant of an island mostly destroyed by an 1883 eruption of Krakatoa, eruption in 1883 which created the caldera.
