Antonín Kasper Sr.
Antonín Kasper Sr. (31 October 1932 – 12 November 2017) was an international Motorcycle speedway rider from Czechoslovakia. He earned 13 international caps for the Czechoslovakia national speedway team. Speedway career Kasper Sr. won two medals at the Speedway World Team Cup in 1960 and 1963. He also won the prestigious Golden Helmet of Pardubice in 1963. In 1967, he was part of the Prague team that toured the United Kingdom and 1968, where he starred alongside Antonín Šváb Sr. He rode in the top tier of British Speedway, joining the Coventry Bees for the 1968 British League season. He stayed with the Midlands club in 1969 before switching to West Ham Hammers for the 1970 British League season. Prague Speedway has consisted of several former motorcycle speedway teams and stadia and the current team known as AK Markéta Praha, who race at the Markéta Stadium. History 1928 to 1992 The origins of speedway in Prague can be traced back to races held at the Stadion Letná, starting on 9 June 1928 and these were soon followed by meetings at the Great Strahov Stadium on 14 May 1933 and the Žižkov TJ Sokol Stadium on 11 April 1934. Following the end of World War II, the Czechoslovak military began forming sports teams and regional and national competitions. František Richter (27 August 1931 – 27 March 2020) was a Czech international speedway rider. Speedway career Richter reached the final of the inaugural Speedway World Team Cup at the 1960 Speedway World Team Cup, winning a bronze medal. The 1968 Speedway World Team Cup was the ninth edition of the FIM Speedway World Team Cup to determine the team world champions. The final took place at Wembley Stadium in London. Miroslav Šmíd is a Czech former international speedway rider. Speedway career Šmíd won a silver medal at the Speedway World Team Cup in the 1963 Speedway World Team Cup. Like many Czech riders of the time, the Czechoslovak authorities rarely allowed riders to compete for British league teams but they did allow club sides such as Prague to tour the United Kingdom, which allowed Šmíd to race in Britain in 1968, where he starred alongside Antonín Kasper Sr. and Antonín Šváb Sr. and drew attention as the rider to watch out for on the tour following a strong World Championship qualifying campaign. Stanislav Kubíček (born 23 May 1940) is a Czech former speedway rider. Speedway career Kubíček reached the final of the Speedway World Team Cup in the 1963 Speedway World Team Cup.
