Anton Jacobs-Webb
Anton Jacobs-Webb (born September 18, 2000) is a Canadian ice sledge hockey player. He competed at the 2022 Winter Paralympics and won a silver medal. He also competed at the 2024 World Para Ice Hockey Championships and won a gold medal. Early life Jacobs-Webb was born on September 18, 2000, in Williamswood, Nova Scotia. He was born with a birth defect which caused his left leg to be shorter than his right. Jacobs-Webb became interested in Para ice hockey when he met Hervé Lord as a pre-teen who then invited him to the local para hockey club in Ottawa. He had surgery to amputate his leg above the knee in 2012 and began walking with a prosthesis. Career Jacobs-Webb made his international debut at the 2021 World Para Ice Hockey Championships while also completing the first year of his mechanical engineering undergraduate degree at Concordia University. Hervé Lord
Hervé Lord (born March 3, 1958) is a Canadians, Canadian ice sledge hockey player. He was born in Saint-Pamphile, Quebec, Canada. In the Paralympic Games, Lord has won numerous medals as a member of the Canadian team including bronze (1994 Winter Paralympics, 1994), silver (1998 Winter Paralympics, 1998) and gold (2006 Winter Paralympics, 2006). He also competed with teams which finished in fourth place in 2002 Winter Paralympics, 2002 and 2010 Winter Paralympics, 2010. Lord took the athletes' oath on behalf of all competitors at the 2010 Winter Paralympics in Vancouver. He announced his retirement from the Canadian ice sledge hockey team on September 7, 2010 (along with captain Jean Labonte, Todd Nicholson and goaltender Paul Rosen). Ice Sledge Hockey
Sledge hockey, also known as Sled hockey in American English, and Para ice hockey in international competition, is an adaptation of ice hockey for players who have a physical disability. The sport was invented in the early 1960s at a rehabilitation centre in Stockholm, Sweden, and played under similar rules to standard ice hockey. Players are seated on sleds and use special hockey sticks with metal "teeth" on the tips of their handles to navigate the ice. Playing venues use an ice hockey rink. Sledge hockey has been a part of the Winter Paralympics programme since 1994.
