Annick Papillon
Annick Papillon (born May 27, 1980) is a Canadian politician, who served in the House of Commons of Canada from 2011 to 2015. She represented the electoral district of Québec as a member of the New Democratic Party. Biography Papillon was born in Rimouski, Quebec, and grew up in Quebec City. She earned a BA in public communications, law, and history and pursued advanced studies in journalism at Université Laval. She specialized in international politics and field journalism while studying at the Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium, and performed an internship at Radio-Télévision belge de la Communauté francophone. Back in Quebec, she volunteered for humanitarian organizations. At the time of her election, she worked for the Institut de la statistique du Québec. Running in her first campaign, she defeated incumbent Bloc Québécois MP Christiane Gagnon with a margin of 7,709 votes in the 2011 Canadian federal election. Québec (formerly known as Langelier) is a federal electoral district that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1968. It is located in Quebec City in the province of Quebec, Canada. The main employer in the district is the provincial Government of Quebec. Geography The riding, in the Quebec region of Capitale-Nationale, consists of the central part of Quebec City, including the borough of La Cité and the southern part of the borough of Les Rivières, as well as the parish municipality of Notre-Dame-des-Anges. 2012 New Democratic Party Leadership Election
The 2012 New Democratic Party leadership election (NDP), was held March 24, 2012, in order to elect a permanent successor to Jack Layton who had died the previous summer. The New Democratic Party's executive and caucus set the rules for the campaign at a series of meetings in September 2011. The election took place in Toronto and on the Internet. At the Leadership Convention, held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Thomas Mulcair was declared to be the new leader of the party. The convention was to be held at Exhibition Place's Allstream Centre, but it was moved to the larger venue due to a greater than expected number of delegates registering for the event.
